4-Year-Old in His PJs Takes Mom’s Car for a Joyride

4 year old takes moms car

A Dutch four-year old decided to test his driving skills this weekend when he borrowed his mom’s car for a little jaunt around the neighborhood. Taking a page from every parent’s morning drop-off routine, he even did it in his pajamas!

Urecht city police took to Instagram to share the quirky news that a “new Max Verstappen” had been found after crashing into two parked cars on Saturday. Rather than waiting around to exchange insurance information, the four-year-old took off in bare feet and his PJ’s before being spotted by bystanders.

In case you aren’t aware, Max Verstappen is the current Dutch World Champion Formula One driver (much to the chagrin of Britain’s Lewis Hamilton), and like many of the professional racer’s grand prix appearances, everyone emerged from the incident unscathed.

According to the Instagram post, police were notified of the four-year-old walking alone by a bystander who worried he might be suffering from hypothermia. After getting a hot chocolate and a comfort bear, a report came in about an abandoned accident site. As it turns out, the car was registered to the child’s mother.

After a quick conversation with mom, who referred to her son as “enterprising,” everyone walked to the scene of the crime. Not long after, dad showed up and everyone learned that the four-year-old knew exactly how to open the car door, put the key in the ignition and put his feet on the clutch and gas pedals.

Apparently, after dad went to work, the boy decided he needed a little “me time” and went for a drive. Thankfully, given the early morning hours, no one was injured and per police, “this mini driver’s adventure has come to an end with a sizzle.”

All F1 drivers have their start somewhere––maybe this is just the beginning for this new, young Dutch driver.
