Emma Roberts Calls Out Her Mom for Revealing Son’s Face Without Asking

Emma Roberts called out her mom on social media for posting a photo showing her 2-year-old son’s face without her permission

When there’s a new baby in a family, of course everyone is excited. It’s an exciting event! It’s worth sharing and celebrating! But there’s just one major caveat here: in the age of social media, the only people who should have a say in when and how a baby or young child is shared on the internet are their parents. As tempting as it may be for grandparents and other extended family members to splash photos on social media, it’s just not cool to do that without permission—which is exactly what Emma Roberts’ mom just did.

Roberts is mom to two-year-old son Rhodes, who was born in 2020. Since his birth, she’s kept him offline, never posting any photos that showed his face. But this week, Roberts’ mom decided to take matters into her own hands and post a photo of Rhodes to Instagram, face and all. We’re not going to include it here, for obvious reasons.

Roberts then took to her own Instagram to air her frustration, posting a story where she wrote, “When your mom posts your son’s face without asking but you love them both so whatever.”

It does appear that there are no hard feelings between mom and daughter, since Roberts’ mom posted a screenshot of the story to poke fun at it.

“The battle continues!!🤣🤣” she wrote. “I love you Q!! Touche’♥️”

At the end of the day, though, it should have been Roberts’ choice whether her young son was shown on the internet. That’s her right as his mother, and these celeb grandmas have to stop doing this (remember just a few weeks ago when Sharon Osbourne got called out by her daughter for doing something similar?).

What makes this situation even more problematic is that it isn’t even the first time Roberts’ mom has shared something personal about her online without permission. Back in 2020, before Roberts and her then-boyfriend Garrett Hedlund had confirmed they were expecting Rhodes, it was Roberts’ mom who spilled the beans online. Roberts later shared that she subsequently blocked her mom on Instagram, which, yeah, fair.

“Mothers and Instagram [are] a bad combination,” she told Jimmy Kimmel. “It was the worst thing she ever did. … It was a disaster, and I found it all out on a plane, so I couldn’t get to her. I couldn’t call her or attack her. We kind of laughed. We kind of got into a fight.”
