The city of Madrid, Spain has just approved a new measure calling for free enrollment at public daycare centers for babies from birth up to three-years-old. A total of 8,768 children at 69 centers around the city will benefit from the new program. Kids ages three to six-years-old are already able to attend early learning centers for free throughout the country.

The program, which will begin in the 2019-2020 school year, will cost the city approximately one million Euros. Families currently pay a fee based on their income, which amounts to just 14 Euros a month for the lowest income bracket. The hope is that free daycare will improve early education and help families achieve a better work-life balance.
