Fairies and Dragons
Fairies and Dragons (pictured) in Encino is a magical place for your little prince or princess to celebrate. Set in an enchanted forest complete with unicorns, elves, and fairies this venue has a wonderful storybook atmosphere and a dress-up closet your tot will covet. And for those who prefer to host events at their own home, Fairies and Dragons will work with you to make it happen. Each theme (Fairy, Princess, Pirates, Magic, and Dragons, or a custom one of your choosing) comes with a variety of entertainment including everything from treasure hunts, face painting, and dress up clothes to story time and a spread of food. All you need to bring is cake! Cost is generally $400 for 8 children and $25 for each additional child, but may vary based on your needs.

Lollipop Dreams
Another venue specializing in whimsical birthdays for kiddos is Sherman Oak’s Lollipop Dreams. You can go simple with their basic birthday package or go all out and choose from one of their specialty events, like the Crazy Hair Salon, Fancy Tea Party, Garden Fairies and Bug Hunters, Pirates or, if you’re indecisive, go big with the Lollipop Dream Supreme which combines a little of them all! And parking is super easy since Lollipop Dreams is in the Sherman Oaks Galleria. Set up, clean up, dessert, food, entertainment—every detail is handled by the on site hosts so you can just sit back and beam with parental pride. Magicopolis
No need to pull a birthday bunny out of a hat – you can leave that to the pros at Magicopolis. Santa Monica’s favorite magic palace is the perfect place to wow kiddos with a little sleight of hand, card tricks, and more. Magicopolis provides everything from pizza, cake, party favors and decorations to a magic class and show. Ta-da! Party is done. Price is $500 for up to 15 children and $750 for up to 30 children (deposits required).

Rolling Robots
Robots and birthday cake? Yep! At this unique, creative venue, your birthday prince or princess will get to take the controls and create real robots. Parties include private use of their Robotics Lab for 2 hours, 1 Robot Kit per guest, private use of Remote Controlled Robots, a Rolling Robots t-shift for the birthday kid, valet parking for party host, and trained staff for the party. Their basic package starts at $100 plus $25 per kids making a robot (10 kids minimum). Private closed gate parties are also available for an additional charge of $250.

La Petite Party
La Petite Party is a magical blank canvas for your child’s imagination. From spa parties and mad hatter tea parties to a Star Wars Universe, your kid has never experienced anything like this! Once you’ve chosen the theme, La Petite will create an entire environment to make it truly come to life. With even a cafe lounge area for parents to relax, this space is a stress-free way to plan a mega birthday bash. Each party comes with at least two hostesses and a full birthday meal. Santa Monica Pier Carousel
Looking for something different? Go old school with a party at the Santa Monica Pier’s Carousel. It’s one of the few all-wooden carousels still in operation and covered space is perfect, whether you’re planning for a small party or a large gathering. If you need more space and yearn for a little privacy, the back deck is available for rent. You bring the decorations, though you may want to skip the usual standbys—no tape, balloons, and the like is allowed in this historical space. The fee includes unlimited rides for 3 hours for up to 30 guests which includes both children and parents. Additional time is available as well. You bring your own food, beverages, and cake—but the pier and it’s wealth of food is also available if you want to a make a day of it. Price is $200 for 30 guests and $5 per each additional person.

Star Eco Station
Animal lovers will dig having their big day at Star Eco Station, a non-profit organization that rescues exotic animals. They have cool hands-on experiences with tons of different animals, including reptiles, big cats, and birds. They have a choice of several themed rooms, from the outdoor Turtle Island to the Galeria Del Mundo with bamboo walls and jungle print. Packages include guided tours and space rental for the party. For an added cost, the Eco Station will provide pizza, popcorn, snowcones, drinks, and paper goods at a charge, or you can bring your own food. Cost ranges from $400 – $1,500 (depending on package choice and number of guests) plus additional costs for food and extra hours.

Aquarium of the Pacific
Ocean-loving kiddos will dig a Nemo-fest at the Aquarium of the Pacific, where you can choose from a shark, turtle, or marine mammal-themed party. The parties include a one-hour class complete with a touch tank, biofact discovery, and a craft project. You supply the cake, while juice and ice cream can be added for $5 per person. Older kids will love the birthday sleepover option. Cost is $39 per person for a minimum 15 guests and admission is included.

Parks and Recreation Centers
Don’t forget to check your local park and recreation centers. Parks can be an ideal spot for a birthday bash, giving the kids an instant space to play and no worries about making a mess. This may mean getting there early in order to nab the best picnic table and space, while other parks may have covered spaces available for reservations or indoor venues.
