LEGOLAND’s Newest Attraction Is Open: Ferrari Build and Race

LEGOLAND California has done it again! The flagship theme park just debuted its latest one-of-a-kind, show-stopping attraction, the Ferrari Build and Race and minifigs are in for a racing good time. The LEGO Ferrari attraction is truly interactive from start to finish, putting little Formula 1 lovers in the driver’s seat as they maneuver from the “garage” to the “racetrack”. Emphasizing hands-on play, creativity and imagination, the latest addition to LEGOLAND is a natural fit for the brick capital of the west. Read on for everything you need to know about Ferrari Build and Race and click here for an insider’s scoop on navigating the rest of the park.

What to Expect

The Build and Race exhibit is divided into three zones: the garage zone, the build zone, and the race zone. When walking into the sleek red garage, guests are greeted by LEGO pit crew members standing by to assist with Ferrari fun facts. This zone showcases some of the Ferrari history, awards, and LEGO replica memorabilia, including the impressive life-size Ferrari F40, built out of 350,000+ LEGO bricks which took over 1900 hours to build.

Get Creative: The Build Zone

When inspiration hits, and it's time to build, head into the next room, which is set up with all of the LEGO pieces needed to construct a miniature race car. Multiple testing tracks are available where kids can race a car through a tire, straight down a slick hill, or across rolling hills. This is where modifications and adjustments to the design can be made. A DUPLO build zone is also available for younger visitors to build and test with larger bricks.

Race Zone: Ready, Set, Go

Feeling the need for speed? Once racers finish their prototype, it's time to put the car on the virtual track and go. The track has several stations where cars are scanned and evaluated on aerodynamics, drag, and force. When racers decide on tire and engine specs, a digital version of the vehicle is ready for a race on Ferrari's own Pista Di Fiorano track. The countdown begins, and the race is on! Cars do three laps around the track, and racers can help their vehicles with a power boost or lane change button. Get ready for an exhilarating few minutes as you watch how well the cars perform.

After the race, car designers are invited to the winner’s circle to hold their winning vehicles for the perfect photo op. Our take? Ferrari Build and Race is a hands-on way to expose kids to design and engineering through a creative series of tasks. So buckle up and enjoy the ride because everything really is awesome!
Ferrari Build and Race is included with the price of admission and is good for ages two and up. Be sure to check out our story on 21 Tricks That Will Make Your Trip to Legoland Awesome for pro tips that will help level up your trip.
