I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. Especially our kids! But let’s be honest, as much as we love those sweet scoops, it can do a number on some little tummies. And big tummies, as well. But all is not lost. There are plenty of dairy-free (delicious) treats that everyone can enjoy without worrying about those post-snacking pains. Here are a few of our favorite new ones—scroll down to see them all.
1. Go Bananas
The new brand Snow Monkey believes that delicious and nutritious can go hand-in-hand. Their flavors are made with only seven all-natural, plant-based ingredients. Seven! It’s vegan, paleo, non-dairy, and free from gluten, nuts, and soy. And unlike some non-dairy ice creams that use almond or coconut milk, Snow Monkey uses bananas as their base. So I guess now we’re bananas for ice cream.
Available at snowmonkey.com, $48 for a six-pack.
2. Crazy Cool
Everyone’s favorite fun ice cream brand, Ben & Jerry’s, has recently launched some of their classic flavors, such as Cherry Garcia, Coconut Seven Layer Bar and Caramel Almond Brittle, in non-dairy options (they’re made with almond milk). But, this isn’t their first foray into non-dairy—fans can also find Chunky Monkey (a personal favorite), Chocolate Fudge Brownie, and P.B. Cookies. Plus, they’re certified vegan, so everybody wins.
Available at bennjerry.com, or grocery stores nationwide, $7.99 per pint.
3. Familiar Favorites
We all have memories of dishing up dessert from that Breyer’s tub. Their non-dairy treats are made with almond milk and the newest tubs include Oreo Cookies & Cream and Vanilla Peanut Butter. Time to get the giant scooper out!
Available at ShopRite, Stop & Shop, and major markets across the country.
4. Too Many to Choose
The name Nado Moo literally means No Milk. These delicious and creamy ice creams are made with coconut milk, and there are a ton of flavors to satisfy even the pickiest ice cream connoisseur. Some of their newest ones include Birthday Cake Cookie Dough (swoon), Chocolate Peanut Butter, and Rockiest Road.
Available via instacart.com or at Whole Foods nationwide, $5.49 per pint.
5. Ice Cream That Grows on Trees
Unlike most other ice creams that are coconut milk or almond milk based, Cado uses avocados as the base for their fresh organic treats. Each pint actually contains an entire avocado! Talk about a seriously delicious super food. While they don’t have as many options as some of the other non-dairy brands, they do have Mint Chocolate Chip, Deep Dark Chocolate, and Simply Lemon.
Available at select specialty and co-op grocery stores across the Midwest and Northeast.
6. Organic Bliss
Like the name says, Luna & Larry’s Organic Coconut Bliss is heavenly. They have a ton of flavors (almost 20!) and are all certified organic. Their newest flavors are the mouthwatering Cinnamon Chocolate Fusion and Chocolate Chip Cookie. Plus, they have their own coloring book for both adults and grownups to enjoy while chowing down on some super healthy yet yummy treats. And did we mention they also have ice cream sandwiches made with hemp seed chocolate chip cookies? Pure bliss.
Available at Stop & Shop, Fairway, Vons, and Ralph’s markets across the country.
7. A Triple Threat
For those with allergies that go beyond dairy, DF Mavens offers three different bases for their ice creams, including almond milk, coconut milk, and soymilk. Based in Astoria, Queens, DF Mavens claims to be the new standard in non-dairy desserts, with each flavor made with the highest quality ingredients. Bananas Foster and Orange Crème Vanilla are the new 2017 flavors, and they also offer nice creams bars with either an almond or coconut base.
Available at dfmavens.com, $32 for a four-pack.
8. The Name Says It All
With a name like So Delicious, it better be good. And guess what? It is! The almost 30-year-old company has managed to get this dairy-free thing down, with tons of flavors, like Chocolate Cookies N’ Cream, Cappucino, Dark Chocolate Truffle, Snickerdoodle, and on and on and on. Like DF Mavens, So Delicious lets you choose the best base for you between coconut milk, cashew milk, soymilk, or almond milk. They have everything from pints to mini ice cream sandwiches to whipped toppings. And their newest treats, cashew milk bars sounds dreamy—Dipped Salted Caramel and Double Chocolate Delight.
Available at ShopRite, Fairway, and major markets across the country.
Would you trade your regular favorite frozen treat in for one of these non-dairy delights?
