Handmade Holiday: 6 Kid-Friendly Spots for DIY Gifts

Here’s a holiday PSA from us here at Red Tricycle NY:  Your mother-in-law does not need another serving platter that you picked up in a panic at Macy’s. However, she’ll love one personally hand-painted by her grandchild! Make holiday dreams come true — and keep your little one engaged on a cold or rainy day — at one of these drop-in spots where kids can unleash their creativity and help you cross a few folks off your gift list!

For Little Fashionistas: Groovy on Grand Design Studios in Westchester

If you have fashion forward types in your home, this place is for you. Groovy on Grand specializes in textile decorating and crafting and offers drop-in workshops for everything from aprons and throw pillows to blankets and T-shirts. And should your kid's project not go so well, Groovy on Grand also sells original clothes and accessories that you can have personalized for that special someone on your list. Drop-in projects start at $24 and go up, but specials on Thursdays and Fridays bring the price down to $20

Good to know: Groovy on Grand is for kids ages seven and up and welcomes drop-ins.  But for the super- discerning customers with special colors and styles in mind, call ahead and reserve a spot and supplies.

Hours: Tues.&Wed. 10a.m.-3p.m.; Thurs.&Fri. 11a.m.-6p.m.; Sat. 10a.m.-5p.m.
