Under Cover: 9 Shaded Playgrounds to Try

Where do you go when the sun is blazing hot and your neighborhood park’s play structure feels like a fireball? Take cover! The following parks with shaded playgrounds are our perfect picks for outdoor fun when the sun is at its peak. Flip through the gallery for the scoop.

Columbia Park

This north Portland park has plenty of beautiful, old-growth Doug Firs to spare. No matter how busy this park gets, which it usually doesn't, there's enough room for everyone to spread out a blanket and make an afternoon of it. There are plenty of picnic tables near the playground for a picnic. The structure has a tube, mini rock wall and shallow steps up for younger kids. We especially love their splash pad with giant flower features and the teeter-totter built for four.
