Olmstead Place State Park: 217 Acres of Outdoor Fun

Looking for an easy escape from the urban sprawl?  Ellensburg offers a laid-back atmosphere that’s fun-filled for the entire family with shops, museums, kid-friendly restaurants, hiking, fishing camping and more!

Ellensburg has a lot to offer your family from the many theaters and great eateries to cute boutiques, cafes and local farms. But when you need to get away from it all and disconnect from the hustle and bustle that is your life, Olmstead Place State Park is the place to go.

With breathtaking views and enough quiet that you can hear a pin drop (only if your kids are asleep, of course) Olmstead Place State Park is the ideal mini escape. Only a ten minute drive East of Ellensburg, this beautiful 217 acre state park is one of the best day-use parks in the entire northwest. There are 17 unsheltered picnic areas that you can reserve ahead of time, beautiful gardens, walking trails, and even a small museum.

At Olmstead Place State Park, you can even imbue your outdoor fun with a bit of learning. Visit a working pioneer farm and take in the big, rustic red farmhouse. Plus, old fashioned farm equipment is even on display. From tractors and plows, your little ones will have the chance to experience an old farm in an exciting way.

Looking for a little background? Take a free guided tour where you’ll learn all about the area from the time the Olmstead family arrived in 1875 to the transition from family property to state park in 1968.
