Go Play! 7 of East County’s Best Parks

There’s nothing quite like the rush of cool wind through the hair and warmth of the sun on your face. Pretty soon, your kiddo reaches higher and higher toward the sky and they feel like you’re flying! If your kiddo wants nothing more than an afternoon playing on the swings at the park, then take them outside for some fresh air and fun. We’ve rounded up East County’s best parks for a playdate, birthday party or a scooter ride. Click through the slideshow to see where your next playdate awaits!

Big Rock Park

Another East County Park that offers kids a place to explore nature right off the playground is Big Rock Park in Santee. Tall, leafy trees provide relaxing shade. A small stream at the west end of the park is a great natural play space to hunt for bugs and climb around the rocks. Moms with babies still in carriers who are looking for a workout can take advantage of the trails which wind up to Cowles Mountain. This is also a great picnic spot. You’ll find plenty of tables with a BBQ pit next to each under a trellised structure with clean restrooms nearby. There is not a lot of parking, but on weekends, parking at the adjacent elementary school is an option. And all the parks in Santee can be reserved ahead of time for a party or other event for an hourly fee. No more saving the perfect party spot at 6 a.m. the day of the party!
