Summer Drink Recipe: Fresh Watermelon Milk Tea Boba

Put down the juice box and bust out the blender. It’s time to meet a cool new drink. Fresh Watermelon Milk Tea Boba is an Asian-inspired concoction made with summer’s most luscious fruit. You can make it at home with this easy recipe created by Johanna Cook of Momma Cuisine. Johanna is a Chicago mom and chef that inspires families to eat healthfully through her nationally acclaimed website and video cooking series, Great Everyday Meals. She says that instead of using black tea, you can swap in your favorite tea, and the black tapioca pearls (or “boba”) make this not just a thirst quencher, but a filling snack.

Ingredients
5 cups of chopped watermelon, blended until smooth
1 cup of dried boba
4 cups of water
5 cups of black tea, luke warm
¼ cup of condensed milk
Ice

Method
1. Bring the water to a boil and add the boba. Boil until the boba has plumped up and has a soft interior.

2. Take the boba out of the water and let cool with some of the water it was boiled in, to prevent them from sticking.

3. In a large pitcher, mix the blended watermelon juice, black tea and condensed milk, and stir until the milk has incorporated fully with the tea and juice.

4. Take a tall glass and add ¼ cup of boba on the bottom. Fill with ice and top with Fresh Watermelon Milk Tea and serve.
