As soon as that last school bell rings, kids will leave behind their classrooms and books for the summer. They’ll also be waving goodbye to P.E. The free Walk and Talk program from Marathon Kids is an easy way to make sure your kids get enough exercise until they head back to school.
The Journal of the American Medical Association recommends that kids get at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day, but finding a way to get kids up and moving isn’t always easy during the lazy days of summer. Marathon Kids, a non-profit that works to inspire the joy of physical activity in kids, offers a program over the summer that keeps kids moving and gives them a chance to bond with their parents at the same time.
To get started all you have to do is register your family for the Walk and Talk program through Marathon Kids. Once you sign up you’ll be able to download free materials and resources, like a log you can use to track the distance you walk together. You can also download 26 conversation starter cards (one for each mile walked) to help get the ball rolling as you walk together. If you use all 26 cards you’ll have walked 26 miles together by the end of the summer.
If you want to kick things up a notch, you can also sign up to form your own family running club. You’ll receive a step-by-step guide to getting started as well as mileage logs and Nike rewards. Check out all the details here.
