Dhyana Levey is the PR Director for the Golden Gate Mother group, as well as proud mama to one kiddo. Beating boredom on a cold winter weekend includes lots of time for fun! “We find indoor activities like puzzles, board games and story times. We also have access to excellent indoor playgrounds around here, sure to wear out even the most active preschooler,” she says.
What about family rituals? “We like to bake cookies! It's a great activity if it's cold outside, plus you can make them festive for the holidays and, if you make too many, you can give them away as gifts.” Even in San Francisco the weather can a take a turn for the worse so Dhyana lists TV time or movie and popcorn among her “emergency gear” items. More importantly though, a good jacket for a visit to the park is a must!
As for beating the winter blues, “the best way to beat the winter blues is to embrace the season," she admits. "A kid-friendly holiday party at a friend's house or a festive event at a museum, library or playground usually cheers everyone up.” Does this mama and her family enjoy winter adventures? “We're not big on snow sports but still enjoy heading up to Tahoe to go sledding, build a snowman or just generally play in the snow. If we want to get out of the cold all together, we head south to Southern California or make a longer trip to Mexico or Hawaii.”
