Winter Survival Tips from Moms Group Founders

Your #1 winter goal: beat cabin fever! We want to help, so we tapped into parents who are head honchos on the parent support circuit. Click through our flipbook to meet moms group founders across the U.S. They dish on how to keep kids not only entertained, but ecstatic, when the weather doesn’t agree.

Risa Goldberg & Leslie Venokur – Big City Moms

Risa Goldberg and Leslie Venokur are not only co-founders of Big City Moms but sisters too! Cold weekend boredom busters is an easy subject for them to tackle: “We are both big 'campers' so it comes naturally to us to create an indoor camp day with a bunch of scheduled activities. Some of those can be cooking and baking for the older kids and for the younger set. There is nothing like a good ol' finger-paint session in the bathtub with food coloring and frosting!”

Awesome family rituals for these gals started way back when they were kiddos so they’ve had time to perfect the recipe. “We love driving around and looking at all the holiday lights and holiday themed store windows," they say. "Our parents did this with us when we were little so its a ritual we like to do with our kids as well. Being silly and playing in the snow (yes we partake too!) is always a fun activity as is eating warm chocolate chip cookies when we are done."

What is on the list of emergency “gear” for these sister-mamas? “It's tough to be stuck inside all day long, so we are big fans of 7 am Enfant products -- the footmuff is so cozy for strolls as is their mittens and hats," they say. "We also don't leave home without boogie wipes! Cold days bring on lots of runny noses!”

Having go-to spots for beating the winter blues is important and both Risa and Leslie have awesome suggestions: “Movies, theatre, museums, indoor play gyms, the library, and arts and crafts studios. All of those places let our kids' imaginations run wild, let them be creative and forget about the plunging temperatures outside.”

Winter adventures for this family take place in all kinds of weather, including warm weather trips and taking day trips to ice skate and ski, followed up by lots of hot chocolate!
