Season 2 of ‘Yellowjackets’ Finally Begins Production

Yellowjackets Season 2’s big casting announcements give some hints to future storyline

Lauren Ambrose has officially been cast to play adult Van in the second season of Yellowjackets, Showtime announced. Equally as exciting, Liv Hewson, who plays teenage Van has been promoted to be a series regular in the show’s second season.

Fans were left wondering if Van made it out of the woods to survive as an adult but the casting confirms what most hoped after we learned that Lottie (played as a teenager by Courtney Eaton) was alive. If you’ve not yet binged the series, Yellowjackets follows a New Jersey high-school girls’ soccer team after their plane crashed, leaving them to fend for themselves in the wilderness. There, they quickly assemble to create their own order and society for 19 months before their eventual rescue.

The best part about the show is that it exists in two timelines: as teenagers fighting for their own survival following the crash in 1996, and in their adult lives 25 years later, intertwined in ways they’d never imagined. The fan-favorite show will begin production on Season 2 this month in Vancouver with a tentative 2023 release date.

In Season 1, we were introduced to the adult versions of Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), Misty (Christina Ricci), Natalie (Juliette Lewis), and Taissa (Tawny Cypress) During the season finale, Simone Kessell (adult Lottie) makes her first appearance.

Van and Tai are a couple as teens, so it will be interesting to learn what, if any, relationship they have as adults.

According to EW, Elijah Wood will also join the cast of Yellowjackets during its second season, playing a character named Walter, “whose arc will intertwine with Misty (Christina Ricci) in significant ways,” so you just know that’s going to be interesting. Adult Lottie will be played by Simone Kessell.

Ambrose played Claire Fisher on HBO’s Six Feet Under and received two Emmy nominations for her role. Currently, she’s cast in the M. Night Shyamalan thriller Servant.

Yellowjackets has already earned seven Emmy nominations, including best drama series, two nominations for writing, directing and casting. If you haven’t had a chance to dive in, here’s the season 1 trailer to convince you the series is definitely binge-worthy.
