The spread of coronavirus is continuing to devastate the food industry. Many people are looking for ways to support their favorite restaurants during this time through buying gift cards and ordering take-out. Yelp and GoFundMe have teamed up to offer another way to help.
Yelp is adding donation buttons to eligible business pages. These buttons will automatically appear on Yelp pages for eligible restaurants, nightlife, beauty and fitness and active life businesses. After you click the button you will be redirected to the GoFundMe page for that business.
In addition to the buttons, The Yelp Foundation and GoFundMe have pledged to match up to $1 million in donations with a $500 match for the first 2,000 eligible businesses that claim their fundraising page on GoFundMe and raise $500. Other companies are expected to contribute to the matching fun in the coming week.
Businesses can opt out of the opportunity to accept donations if they choose. To learn more about the donation pages and to see if a business is eligible, visit the FAQ page.
