Make Tracks for the Best Train Museums in the Country

You’re never too old to ride the rails. To help you discover (and explore) a few awesome engines, we tracked down the best train museums from coast to coast. Whether you’re a big buff or a little buff, these historic sites, antique collections, and interactive exhibits will keep you clickety-clacking down the track. Flip through the album to see them all.

Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum – Chattanooga, Tn

It’s hard not to think trains when you hear Chattanooga (choo-choo!), so it’s no surprise the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum made our list. Each train is a moving museum paying homage to the past. The Missionary Ridge Local is a quick out-and-back great for the tot lot, and the Hiwassee River Rail Adventure has a roller coaster feel for older engineers-in-training.

Insider Tip: Be sure to visit in September during the Annual Rail Fest to add a little something extra to the standard train package. Live music, magic shows, blacksmithing demonstrations and even a petting zoo makes this a trip-worthy affair.
