Soar Over the East River
Make like Spider-man, and glide 250 feet above the East River on a four minute tram ride between Midtown East and Roosevelt Island. Once on the island, grab a Starbucks and go on a scavenger hunt through five parks and seven historical landmarks including a lighthouse built by prison inmates, the octagon at a former lunatic asylum and a medieval-like ruin of a Smallpox Hospital. Take your picnic lunch to newly named Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park and memorial covering 4 acres of the southern most tip of the island or take advantage of the 3.8 mile walking and bike path that encircles the island.
Insider Tip: There are plenty of cafes for hungry travelers around the tram entrance and farther down Main St.
