Even in our pedestrian city, kids love getting their hands on big chunky vehicles of all shapes and sizes. If your tot was hailing taxis before his second birthday, you may want to add these seven places to your to-do list. You’ll discover the city’s collection of fire trucks, submarines, helicopters, excavators and other mind-blowing vehicles.

Spy on Helicopters

If you want a closer view of real choppers in action, stroll along Hudson River Park to the West 30th St. Heliport. Chill in the park (at a safe distance) as you watch commuter helicopters take off and land over the Hudson River. You’ll also see ferries, speedboats, FDNY boats and more from your grassy spot along the Hudson. While you’re in the neighborhood, enter the High Line on 30th St. and 10th Ave. to check out the construction of the final phase 3 of the High Line opening later this year around the massive construction site over the Rail Yards.

You can also watch tourist helicopters flying up, up, up and away from the Downtown Manhattan Heliport near Pier 11 and Wall St. Then shop and dine around all the new pop-up shops coming to the Seaport this spring and summer.

Insider’s Tip: Go during commuting hours to see the West 30th St. commuter helicopters in non-stop action.
