Twenty years later, a second Sweet Home Alabama film would be pretty epic

It’s hard to believe its been two decades since Reese Witherspoon‘s lovable movie started warming our hearts, but its true. Now, the actress is teasing the world that there could be a Sweet Home Alabama sequel.

On a recent spot on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna, the mom, writer and entrepreneur was asked if she’d ever do a part two. “Is there ever going to be a reboot of Sweet Home Alabama?” asks Hoda.

“I hope so. I think that would be a great idea,” answers Witherspoon. And all of our dreams would be answered.

Sweet Home Alabama debuted in 2002 and while it received mixed reviews from critics, it has a strong cult following that will fight to the death defending the rom-com. Witherspoon herself recently posted a tribute of sorts on Instagram about the film and its 20-year anniversary, sharing that it “completely changed my life.”

The movie is special in plenty of ways. Not only was it the first film to be allowed to film in NYC after 9/11, it was also the first to film in Tiffany’s since the 1961 hit, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, according to Fame 10.

And let’s not forget the plethora of hit quotes, not the least of which is “You brought a baby. To a bar.”

But back to the sequel, Jenna Bush Hager asks Witherspoon, “Would you be in it? We’re just trying to manifest some things.”

“Maybe. I don’t know. That sounds fun” quips Witherspoon. “Do you guys want me to do that? OK, I’ll make some calls,” she says. While we all know that green-lighting a movie takes a whole lot more than a phone call from Reese, we are happy believing that Melanie Smooter could be making a comeback in the near future.
