This larger-than-life sculpture could be just your type (sorry, we couldn't resist). You probably remember tapping away at a typewriter - and the satisfying "ding" when you pressed the return key - but 21st Century kids certainly don't! Which means they'll be quite nonplussed by this funky addition to the Seattle Center (psst... it moved from its old home at the Olympic Sculpture Park last June). Pop down to the Harrison St. entrance by EMP and take a look. It's a good opportunity to give your techie crew a quick history lesson on the pre-computer world.
Take Notice: Artists Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen came up with the idea back in 1975 when a typewriter eraser was a common every day object - but they didn't create the sculpture until 1999, when typewriters were already well on their way out.
Good to Know: The Seattle Center Typewriter Eraser (officially called Typewriter Eraser, Scale X) is 19-feet, 4-inchs tall. There are two other identical sculptures to be found in the world- one in Las Vegas and one in Washington, DC.
