Chris Hemsworth, who plays muscle-bound Thor—a founding member of the Avengers—has some feelings about his kids’ choice in superheroes. “If you’re asking if they’re allowed to wear any other super hero outfits besides Thor the answer is no,” Chris Hemsworth teased on Instagram, beneath an adorable image of his twins in Thor costumes. It’s not the first time he’s joked about their preferences.
Last year, he posted that one of his sons said that he wants to be a superhero when he grows up. In the image, Hemsworth (and some serious upper body musculature) holds hands with a child sporting a red cape. (Pssst: Thor doesn’t wear a red cape). Seems that his son has a thing for Superman. Dad seems cool with it, despite his menacing look at the camera. He clearly gets the irony, writing “Holding my little man’s hand and asking him the age old question. ‘What do you want to be when you grow up’ ‘Dad i wanna be Superman’ Lucky I have two other kids.”
Possibly the. best part of the online banter that ensued was when Hemsworth’s superhero pals, including Deadpool, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman, commented on the post. Deadpool‘s Josh Brolin replied, “Hahahaha,” while Ryan Reynolds added, “❤️😂❤️.” Wonder Woman‘s Gal Gadot also dropped a laughing emoji and Aquaman‘s Jason Momoa shared that he had a similar experience with his own son Wolf. “😂😂😂😂😂😂yeah wolf wanted to be batman ❤️❤️❤️❤️.”
And while Chris Hemsworth may play a superhero on the screen, he seems to think that his wife Elsa Pataky is a real one. The actor and the model tied the knot in 2010 after less than a year of dating, and welcomed daughter, India, in May 2012. Twin boys Tristan and Sasha followed in March 2014. Hemsworth told WHO magazine “Once we had kids we were like, ‘We’re in it, this is it.’ All of a sudden I had a greater appreciation for my wife, she kind of came into her own when we had kids… She certainly keeps me sane. I complain about things, she gets on with it.”
And he’s also acutely aware of the thief that time is, when it comes to raising children. “I’ve spent probably 15 years in what felt like a marathon, a constant workload,” he told GQ Australia during the pandemic. “So much of my energy has been geared toward that, and then having kids at the same time, I’ve been constantly trying to find the balance. … For a little while, you don’t think the kids notice and then you realize they do.”
The dad of three continued “I absolutely want to continue to make films that I’m proud of, but that can also wait. Now what’s more important is my kids are at an age I don’t want to miss. And I’d hate to look back in 20 years and go, ‘Right, let’s get to work as a parent,’ and I’ve missed it all.”
