Power to the People: Portland Moms Who Slay Every Day

Forget keeping Portland weird because these amazing moms are dedicated to making it (and the rest of the world) wonderful. From working to find foster homes for homeless children to empowering other mothers and much, much more, these power moms are working tirelessly to make our community better and stronger while raising the next generation of Portlanders up right. Cyndie Pelto, Teacher, Running Coach and Race Director

Talk about wearing lots of hats, Cyndie is mom to Andrew (13) and Lauren (10), a substitute teacher for the Beaverton School District, Girls on the Run (GOTR) running coach and Race Director for Cause + Event. Cyndie has been a coaching GOTR for 5 years and has helped Oaks Hills Elementary host two teams each season for four years. It was in her 5th season of coaching that he she experienced the joy of having her daughter join the program. She says, “It was such a wonderful season, seeing the program as a mother…through my own daughter’s eyes.

This year Cyndie will be part of bringing Heart and Sole, GOTR’s program for Middle School girls, to her neighborhood school —Meadow Park. She is also proud of her role in forming Cause + Event, a race series that has gone nationwide and highlights non-profits.

Words of Wisdom: "I am very blessed to have the opportunities that I do, and I feel it is my responsibility to continue to give back wherever and whenever I can."
