Power Moms of the Food World

When it comes to feeding hungry kiddos, every mother fits the term Power Mom. But these women are taking the power up a notch by doing awesome work in the food industry. They are helping to feed hungry kids, creating a honey alternative to save bees, inventing a new toddler sippy cup and making it possible for moms to breastfeed while away from home. Click through the slideshow to see how these women are powering up the food industry.

Dolores (Lola) Wiarco Dweck, Founder of Lola’s Cocina Food Writer

Dolores (Lola) Wiarco Dweck started collecting recipes more than 20 years ago and launched her food blog, Lola’s Cocina, in 2013, two months before her son was born. The site is a food and travel blog dedicated to sharing Mexico’s rich culinary traditions through recipes, cooking classes and specialty food products. Over the years, the blog has expanded to more than sharing recipes. Today Lola teaches Mexican-inspired cooking classes and launched her own line of artisanal salsas and jams. Lola lives in Highlands Ranch, CO with her husband and son, Amado. Prior to starting Lola’s Cocina, Lola’s career took her from Los Angeles, to Taiwan and Washington, D.C. where she worked in the nonprofit, public, and private sectors on strategic growth and marketing initiatives for small and minority-owned businesses.

Proudest Accomplishments: “Personally, raising my son to appreciate and embrace his heritage. He’s growing up in a bicultural household and at 2-and-a-half years old, he’s completely bilingual in English and Spanish and loves Mexican music and food. Professionally, I’m proud that I’ve been able to remain connected and give back to the community in different ways. One of my recent initiatives includes partnering with three organizations -- MANA de San Diego, Fundación En Vía, and Junior Foundation Charities. A portion of the proceeds generated from my product sales and cooking classes supports women in education, business and leadership initiatives.”
