The Holiday is allegedly set for a return—and of course that includes all the original cast
As far as Christmas movies go, The Holiday is an absolute classic. Released in 2006, it follows a pair of unlucky-in-love women from opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean who agree to trade homes and lives for the holidays—and find plenty of adventure (and love) along the way. With an absolutely stellar cast including Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jack Black, and Jude Law, this movie has been staple holiday viewing for 17 years. It’s about time we got an update.
Well, fam, the wait is over! The Holiday is allegedly set to get a sequel, and sources say it will include the entire original cast (because how could it possibly not?!).
A source told The Sun that now that the cast is confirmed, the sequel is set to begin filming “next year.”
“The plan is to start rolling on scenes next year, primarily in the UK and in Europe, but the main talent are all signed up and on board,” the mysterious source said. “It’s one of the most successful movies of its kind and still enjoyed every year by millions of fans around the world — it makes perfect sense to revisit those characters and find out what became of their lives after they hooked up.”
OK, so that information is anonymous, and we should all probably take it with a grain of salt. But why wouldn’t there be a sequel to The Holiday? Reboots are all the rage right now, and the unnamed source puts its best when describing the alleged plot of the follow-up: “It’ll be funny, poignant, and heartwarming — just what everyone wants for Christmas.”
Just like the first movie!
The Holiday was one of the most successful Christmas movies of all time, earning more than $200 million at the box office. And considering star Cameron Diaz retired from acting in 2014, but made her triumphant return in 2022, the timing has never seemed more perfect for a sequel. As Jack Black’s iconic line goes: It’s (almost) Christmas Eve, and we’re going to celebrate being young and alive (hopefully curled up to watch a new installment of one of our favorite Christmas movies).
