Sanae Ishida, Author & Artist
If you ask Sanae Ishida about her husband and 10-year-old daughter, “K”, she’ll tell you they’re a “coffee shop family.” They love hanging out in cafes, reading, chatting and taking part in Seattle’s sipping culture. This scene isn’t surprising when you hear the way Sanae describes herself, as a “maker,” who’s been making things most of her life. She writes, paints, sews, takes photos and about three years ago she ventured into the world of published authors when her fabu children’s book, Little Kunoichi, The Ninja Girl hit bookshelves. Her second book, Sewing Happiness was released this spring.
And to think it all started when she pulled herself out of the rat race, set aside her workaholic tendencies and started her blog, a personal accomplishment she’s super excited to share with others. She loves the “little community” that grew out of it and often sifts through her archives for fun. When Sanae’s not writing, painting or generally making, she loves taking day trips just outside the city for some “nature time” with “K” and her husband.
Power Mom Pearl: As a work-from-home mom, Sanae understands that, “work and life bleed into each other, but because I love what I do on the whole I don’t mind. In fact, I rather like the blurred line.”
