Young Pokémon fans are excited to see Pikachu electrify the big screen in this summer’s upcoming new feature film. But if the new Detective Pikachu trailer is any indication, parents might be left wondering if this Pokémon movie is really made for kids.
Warner Bros. Pictures just dropped the latest trailer for Pokémon Detective Pikachu starring Ryan Reynolds, giving fans a big glimpse of what to expect from the new movie. While the film is not yet rated, the Pokémon universe clearly has legions of young fans that will be hoping to watch. As the trailer indicates, however, there will be some violence, adult language and rude humor. Take a look for yourself:
It will be awhile before the MPAA releases its rating on the film, but based on what’s been revealed so far Common Sense Media warns that it will “likely be edgier than its source material and earlier animated Pokémon movies and series, so it could be too intense for younger kids.”
Pokémon Detective Pikachu opens in theaters May 10, 2019.
