This weatherman’s life has changed for the better
Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest impact. Just ask this Chicago weatherman after he finds out the map he uses every single day to show viewers the weather is actually interactive.
Greg Dutra, a meteorologist with WLS-TV (ABC7), was delivering the morning forecast when he got quite the surprise after he accidentally touched the screen in front of him. “Oh, I moved the map,” Dutra said live on air, looking extremely pleased with himself. “No way. I didn’t know I could do that!” he said, laughing.

The moment is so pure that his colleague, news anchor Terrell Brown, had to get in on the action. “I gotta try it!” he said. He, too, was transfixed by the sudden movement on-screen that he doubles over laughing as Dutra realizes he can not only move the screen, but zoom in and out and tilt the map. Someone in the background was shocked Dutra was today-years-old when he discovered he had magical map-moving powers. “Seriously, you didn’t know you could do that?” she asked off-camera.
The 15 year weather veteran was overwhelmed as producers laughed in the background at his newfound abilities. “This is a great day! Seriously. This is a great day.” he added.
This wasn’t in the training manual! @TBrownABC7 @valwarnertv and I go OFF THE RAILS when I discovered the TV is a touch screen while on-air on @ABC7Chicago 😂 pic.twitter.com/almrdxqz3d

He later joked about the incident on Twitter, saying in part, “This wasn’t in the training manual,” and making fun that he went “off the rails” about the map’s hidden talents.
Many of us in the, um, older generation can appreciate just how shocking it can be to learn all the bells and whistles of new technology or discover some easy hack that makes our lives easier. For Dutra, we’re pretty sure this map functionality is going to be a game-changer.
“I can tilt it? Whoa,” he continued, laughing at himself.
It’s anyone’s guess how long that screen, and it’s interactive capabilities, has been available to Dutra, but here’s hoping all future weather forecasts involve all of the tilting and zooming he’s able to fit into his weather segment.
