Reynolds and Jackman are back together on the big screen

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are reuniting again for a surprisingly hilarious announcement. Jackman is resurrecting his role as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, and the father-of-three also shared an official release date for the highly anticipated film: Sept. 6, 2024.

“Hey everyone, we’re extremely sad to have missed D23,” Reynolds said, referring to the Disney Expo earlier in September. “But we’ve been working very hard on the next Deadpool film for a good long while now.”

“I’ve had to really search my soul on this one. His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character, find new depth, motivation, meaning,” he continued. “Every Deadpool needs to stand out and stand apart. It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside. And I… I have nothing. Yeah, just completely empty up here. And terrifying. But we did have one idea.”

Reynolds shared the adorable video with the caption, “Hard keeping my mouth sewn shut about this one,” which makes sense when he dropped the next bomb: “Hey, Hugh, you want to play Wolverine one more time?” Reynolds asked as Jackman walked by in the background. Jaw. Dropped.

“Yeah, sure, Ryan,” Jackman replied casually. The video ends with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” playing, subtitled as “I will always love Hugh.” Of course, the humor couldn’t end there. “Coming Hughn” was then shown along with the Deadpool logo and Wolverine’s claws, which is odd since Wolverine is supposed to be dead.

Reynolds and Jackman have a long history together. They first appeared in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the first spinoff to focus on Jackman’s now-iconic character. Several years later, Reynolds got another chance as the sarcastic assassin in the Deadpool movie.

Shawn Levy, who has directed Free Guy and The Adam Project, will be teaming up with Reynolds to direct this latest film, and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the first two Deadpool films, will be returning. Director James Mangold, who famously thought he ended Wolverine’s existence once and for all, posted a cheeky response on Twitter.

We cannot wait to see them back together again.
