Kristen Bell revealed her kids sometimes drink non-alcoholic beer (yes, even at restaurants)

If there’s one celeb mom who has never been interested in the opinions of mom shamers, it’s Kristen Bell. Time and time again, she and her husband, Dax Shepard, have proven that they’re going to parent their own way, haters be damned. And during a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Bell did it again—she revealed that she lets her kids drink non-alcoholic beer, and she doesn’t care what anyone has to say about it.

Bell and Shepard share two daughters, 10-year-old Lincoln and 8-year-old Delta. During her interview, Bell said their taste for alcohol-free brews makes sense once you know where they got it (their dad, naturally).

“My kids have ordered non-alcoholic beers at restaurants before, which sounds insane if you don’t know,” she started the story.

Bell continued, “[Shepard] is a recovering addict, but he likes non-alcoholic beer, so he’d pop one open, he’d have [our oldest daughter] on his chest, and we’d walk and look at the sunset. As a baby, she was pawing at it, and sometimes she’d suck on the rim of it. So I think it feels to her like something special, something daddy, something family.”

“We’ve been at restaurants where she’s said, ‘Do you have any non-alcoholic beer?’ and I’m like … maybe we just keep that for home time,” she added, laughing. “But then I’m also sort of like, you can judge me if you want, I’m not doing anything wrong. Like that’s your problem.”

And she has a point. While many people likely cringe at the idea of giving kids a non-alcoholic beer, the fact is, there’s no booze in it. It’s not all that different from a mocktail, which, at the end of the day, is just juice (something kids drink all the time).

Bell and Shepard have always done their best to be open and honest with their kids, especially when it comes to Shepard’s past and his recovery. And this is a great way to keep that conversation open—especially considering the evidence that addition has genetic factors. It’s something their kids need to be aware of as they get older, and it’s refreshing to see Bell and Shepard making sure they keep their kids in the loop.
