The future has arrived. After years of talk and planning, Amazon has announced that it will deliver packages by drone within a few months.
While there are no specific details on when and in what areas the Amazon drone delivery service will begin, the company has revealed that drones will be making deliveries in a matter of months. Jeff Wilke, who oversees Amazon’s retail business, explained that the drones will be all electric, deliver in 30 minutes and can carry up to five pounds.

The drones will utilize computer vision and machine learning to detect and avoid obstacles, like people, pets and power lines during landings and takeoffs. “From paragliders to power lines to a corgi in the backyard, the brain of the drone has safety covered,” said Jeff Wilke, who oversees Amazon’s retail business.
Amazon is just waiting on approval from regulatory agencies, like the Federal Aviation Administration to launch the service. “We expect to do it within months,” Wilke said.
