Lucky for us, Atlanta seems to be in a full-on infatuation with pie’s gooey goodness and there are plenty of places to go grab a slice. Here is our list of the best spots to enjoy this southern sweet with your kids. Pie Shop Pie Shop founder Mims Bledsoe is obsessed with the all-American art of pie making. She was pursuing her Phd in Philosophy at UGA but dreaming of pie. Thank goodness for us she decided to follow her instinct, because Pie Shop’s booming, Buckhead-based biz is a heaven for hand-crafted heaven and the official pie provider for Williams Sonoma. The selection is seasonal and changes every other month, but you can count on them to always have the chocolate ganache and coconut cream pie (for good reason… they are insane). Kids can choose their pleasure from the pie case, and ice cold milk is served up in mason jars. Details: Pie Shop, 3210 Roswell Rd NW Atlanta, Ga 30305, (404) 841-4512, Tuesday-Saturday, 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. The Pie Hole The name drew us in, and the charming cabin in the woods made us second-guess our mission for pie. But the pie, oh, the pie! That’s what will keep us heading back for more. Located in charming historic Roswell, this shop’s chocolate chess and cherry pies are kid pleasers, but be sure to ask for a slice-cream sandwich if you’re in the mood for something frosty. It’s not on the menu, so the kids will think you are cool when you ask for it. Be sure to have witnesses. Details: The Pie Hole, 1025 Canton Street, Roswell, Ga 30075, (678) 461-3776, Tuesday – Friday 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., or until they sell out Greenwood’s on Green Street So now you know: Roswell’s got a pie fetish. This particular spot has been open since 1986 and is a full service restaurant sitting in the middle of a gorgeous garden. Go for a locally sourced meal and dessert, or go just for the made-from-scratch pie, but whatever you do, go. Brightly colored tables and chairs on a shaded porch are just the spot to belly up to a hunk of chocolate, butterscotch, or apple pie (among other options). Details: Greenwood’s on Green Street, 1087 Green Street, Roswell, Ga 30075, (770) 992-5383, Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday 11:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., Friday – Saturday 11:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. The Silver Skillet Their homemade lemon ice-box pie was voted one of the “5 Best Pies in the USA” by Life Magazine, and they’ve been serving breakfast, lunch—and, of course, pie since the 1950’s. Go on a weekday—sit at the counter—and you’ll leave feeling like you’ve not only provided your kids with a killer slice of pie, but also with a better grasp of Americana. Lemon ice-box not your thing? Give their homemade coconut cream or pecan pie a whirl, and remember that everything is better à-la-mode. Details: The Silver Skillet, 200 14th Street NW, Atlanta, Ga 30318, (404) 874-1388, Monday – Friday 6:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Saturday – Sunday 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Southern Sweets Here it is, folks. A pie place that’s owned and operated by a real, live, pie-making mama! Still a family business, this shop serves up breakfast (except on Mondays) and lunch in addition to its expansive bakery offerings. What it lacks in quantity the shop makes up for in quality, as two of the three pies they offer (cherry and apple) are vegan (don’t worry, they won’t suspect a thing). Details: Southern Sweets, 186 Rio Circle, Decatur, Ga 30030, (404) 373-8752, Monday 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Tuesday – Friday 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Saturday – Sunday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Located near the Dekalb Farmers Market Where do you and your family like to grab a slice?
