When it comes to all-inclusive family-friendly vacations, one might think they are prohibitively expensive but here to prove those misconceptions wrong is the newest resort to hit the popular sandy stretch of Cancun—the Wyndham Alltra Cancun. Add to that, a mix of activities for everyone in the family, from grandparents to babies, this all-inclusive makes an ideal multi-generational family destination. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest resort to hit the famed Hotel Zone and why Wyndham Alltra will win over families looking for both a quick beach getaway or a much longer stay. Check out the video below for the highlights and then scroll below for all the must-know details.

About the Wyndham Alltra Cancun

This 458-room resort is located just 25 minutes from Cancun International Airport. Transportation between the hotel and the airport (costs around $89 USD round-trip) can be arranged ahead of time through the hotel’s preferred partner Discova—who can also handle any off-resort excursions. From standard rooms to family junior suites that sleep two adults, and three kids, and comes with a hammock on the balcony, there’s ample space to accommodate your crew—including connecting rooms if you decide to make this a multi-generational or multi-family stay.

Wyndham Alltra Cancun Pools

There are three pools on the property—two of them are located on the lagoon side with one attached to the kid’s club and is a kid’s paradise with water slides and water cannons. The other nearby clover-shaped pool is where families gravitate towards thanks to a max of just below 4.5′ feet water height—ideal for kids just learning to swim.

The main pool overlooks the beach and ocean and this is where you’ll find daily programming like water aerobics, DJ dance parties, crafting stations, outdoor movies, and live entertainment—from mariachi bands to Disney-themed shows. The main pool is still kid-friendly though—with a circular platform in the pool (see above) that allows little ones to splash around in ankle-deep water right along with the big kids.

Wyndham Alltra Cancun Beach Access

What to do at Wyndham Alltra Cancun

The aqua-blue waters of the Caribbean are, literally, steps away from the resort. But unlike other resorts along this stretch, the sightline from lounge chair to ocean is unobstructed—clutch if your kids want to frolic in the water but you still want to keep a watchful eye on them. Add to that, attentive lifeguards, adding to the safety for all that water play.

There are plenty of comfortable lounge chairs and tables available but if you want to upgrade, cabanas can be reserved ahead of time ($75 per day) and come with a bottle of Champagne, soft drinks, and four different snacks. Los Olas, the beachside bar, complete with Instagram-worthy swings, is also here.

Kid’s Clubs at the Wyndham Alltra Cancun

There are two kids’ clubs on the property. For teens (ages 13-17), there’s the #Hashtag Club where they can hang out and play video games, ping pong, or chill in hanging chairs (one of our favorite decor trends) all day from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. And guess what? This is a protected teen space—no parents are allowed inside.

Meanwhile, Camp Alltra includes access to the pirate ship and castle for kids ages 4-12, where they can splash, slide down 7 waterslides, and water cannon their way around the pool. Within the castle, there is a ball pit, hanging bridges as well as daily organized games, plus arts and crafts. Camp Alltra is open from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., and then again from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Good to Know: Babysitting is available after hours for kids ages 4-12; an extra charge applies. Reservations can be made via the concierge.

Entertainment at the Wyndham Alltra Cancun

Whether you’re into movie nights or live music, there’s always something fun happening at the resort. At the Kaa Bar & Lounge (the large bar in the lobby that opens at 11 a.m.), you’ll find live music every night until 11 p.m. There are plenty of seats scattered around the space and is a great spot for people watching and letting the kids dance off those post-dinner wiggles. The resort also offers movie nights, magic shows, and a variety of rotating live entertainment—you won’t see the same experience twice. For a full list of the day’s activities, scan the QR code on the phone in the room. Or check out the day’s schedule of activities, available to guests, on tv screens in the hotel lobby.

Dining at the Wyndham Alltra Cancun

There are 13 places to eat from on the property—not including room service. And in the mornings, there are two choices for breakfast. For made-to-order coffees and pastries like muffins, croissants, pound cakes, and sandwiches swing by Café México. Otherwise, head to global-buffet-focused Ventanas for a breakfast buffet filled with made-to-order omelets, pancakes, waffles, and smoothie stations (this spot is also open for lunch and dinner).

At night, Casa de Rosa is the place to go for authentic Mexican dishes, while Viaggio serves rustic Italian fare and Azul focuses on Asian cuisine.

There are also plenty of casual spots to grab a bite to eat or a refreshing drink. Located near the main pool is Agave Bar serving cool cocktails and drinks while The Dog House—which, you guessed it—dishes out every kid’s favorite meal—the hot dog—and is open daily from noon until 5 p.m.

And if you’re beachside, make sure to grab lunch from Salsa—this stand serves up authentic Mexican dishes.

Just need a quick bite, drink, or something sweet like ice cream? Head to Cravings, a self-service station located down the hall from the concierge desk, near the front of the hotel, open from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

And of course, you can always order room service (not a bad option if everyone is wiped out from playing in the sun and sand all day).

Insider Tip: For a special treat, order the “Cocos Locas or “Piñas Locas” from the main pool (they do cost $10 USD extra) but are well worth the money (see photo above).
