Bye-bye, plastic playgrounds. We’ve found a slew of natural oases to cut loose in. Made from wood, stones and good old-fashioned dirt, they’re Earth’s way of saying “Have a blast!” Click through our album to discover eight playgrounds made from natural materials. Who needs bells and whistles when you have fun like this?
Morton Arboretum Children’s Garden
Playing and learning make one excellent ecosystem at this interactive nature wonderland with 10 themed gardens. Kids can walk on stepping stones to cross a pond, and spy tadpoles while crossing. The adventurous kid can kick off those oh-so-restrictive shoes for a foot dip in the Secret Stream. Children can climb a spider web of ropes or hop across a bridge. Older kids will love getting “lost” in the hedge Maze Garden (there’s a toddler maze next to it for the shorter set).
