This Dad Tried Kindness When Confronting His Son’s Bully & It Was So Necessary

When one dad confronted his son’s bully he realized that things aren’t always what they seem. Houston-area dad Aubrey Fontenot’s eight-year-old son Jordon was the victim of a bully. And the reason behind the bullying behavior isn’t what you’d expect—and neither was the outcome of this sensitive situation.

Jordon’s bully, 11-year-old Tamarion, wasn’t letting up on the eight-year-old. After seeing school reports and hearing about the problems first-hand, Fontenot decided to step in. Even though the school told the dad that they’d take care of the problem, the bullying persisted. With no resolution in sight, Fontenot went back to the school—where he was able to have a conversation with Tamarion’s mother.

What happened wasn’t what the dad expected. Tamarion’s mother explained that their family was homeless. Fontenot decided to talk to Tamarion, with his mother’s permission of course. And what did he find out? The 11-year-old wasn’t bullying his eight-year-old son “just because.” The other kids were bullying him, making fun of his dirty clothes and cheap shoes. When Tamarion looked at Jordon, he envied the boy’s clean clothes. And yes, we totally get it if that absolutely breaks your heart.

Fontenot skipped the bullying reprimand and turned this experience into a life lesson—taking his son shopping to buy new clothes for Tamarion. Oh, but that’s not all. The dad also started a GoFundMe campaign to help the 11-year-old and his family get back on their feet. As of now the campaign has well surpassed its $7,000 goal, earning over $26,900 in seven days.

Even though this story had a happy, or at least helpful, ending, not all bullying does. October is National Bullying Prevention Month. If your child is being bullied or you’re not sure how to talk about bullying with them, visit the website for more information.
