My family moved to Dallas two months ago and we’re already in love with the city! We’ve been on a mission to try new things each weekend and explore as much as possible. There are so many amazing, family friendly experiences in Dallas. Our family has found a lot of fun around the city and we still have a long list of more things we want to try. This list is full of ideas for a fabulous family day in Dallas, Texas!

Bishop Arts District  This area is full of unique murals, trendy shops, and delicious food! Bishop Arts District is the perfect place to walk around with your family and take lots of Instagram worthy pictures. Shop at some unique stores and make sure you get a bite to eat. For some amazing barbecue, I recommend Lockhart Smokehouse BBQ and if you want something sweet be sure to stop at Picole Pops!

Dallas Zoo A day at the Dallas Zoo with your family will be a day well spent! Every animal you want to see is at this large zoo plus some extra experiences like giraffe feeding, petting zoo and play space for the kids to run around and climb. It was hot and rainy the day we went, but it didn’t ruin our day because there are so many shady and sheltered spots to cool off. Make sure to check out the Hillcrest Foundation Nature Exchange which is quite a unique swap shop!

Perot Museum of Nature and Science  This museum is level on level of space to learn and explore! There is so much here to engage the whole family and plenty of hands-on activities for your little scientists. Some things my kids enjoyed the most was building, experimenting with sound, learning about animals and experiencing virtual reality. Feel like watching a 3D movie at the museum? Well, you can at Perot’s movie theater! Plan on spending at least a few hours here so you can experience everything.

Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden  If enjoying nature is your family’s thing, then going to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is a must! Take advantage of the beautiful photo opportunities and leisurely stroll these stunning grounds. Do not miss the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden! You will be as amazed as your kids in this imaginative play land.

Dallas Museum of Art and Klyde Warren Park  These two activities are great together, because they are in walking distance of each other and they’re both free! The museum has a children’s section with an awesome giant peg board and, of course, lots of artwork to admire. The park has a playground and water play area for the kids to run around plus food trucks every day from 11am-4pm. Check https://www.klydewarrenpark.org for events to make your day there extra fun!

Trinity Groves This area has a wide variety of food options so you’ll have no problem finding a spot that satisfies everyone’s cravings! I would recommend trying Off Site Kitchen for some delicious burgers and Bingbox for a frozen treat. Be sure to take a walk after your meal to snap some pictures of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. As you walk along the pedestrian bridge beside Margaret Hunt Hill bridge, there are even random structures for kids to play and climb!

White Rock Lake Park Spend some family time in the great outdoors at White Rock! This large park has a playground, trails for walking or biking, and kayak rentals with White Rock Paddle Company. There’s also a dog park so your fur babies can get in on the fun. If you’re looking for a place to eat after your family adventure, Lake House White Rock Bar & Grill is a casual and tasty option!

Addison Circle Visit Addison Circle during the day to hang out at the park and get a coffee at Astoria Caffe. We like to take advantage of the many grassy areas to play with a soccer ball or football. Walk around in the evening and enjoy dinner at Taco Borracho, The Lion & Crown or another one of the great restaurants that the area has to offer! Addison Circle also hosts great events like Oktoberfest and Kaboom Town.

Dallas World Aquarium  It doesn’t get much better than a family day at the aquarium! So many animals to see up close that I wasn’t expecting like penguins, a manatee and sharks. The manatee’s tank has a huge glass viewing wall so my kids watched in awe for a long time! We brought our stroller but wished we hadn’t because some areas were narrow and a little difficult to push it through. This Dallas must-see is the perfect indoor activity for a super hot or rainy day!
