Child care at gyms is way more than glorified babysitting these days. Kids can take classes, get tutored and–oh yeah–plain old play. There are perks for parents, too, of course, including spying capabilities through closed-circuit TVs and in-gym spa services. Here are some of the more outside-the-[CrossFit]-box options we found.

Sport & Health
Exact offerings depend on each of the 23 area Sport & Health locations, but in Gainesville, for example, kiddos can get moving on play colorful equipment or enjoy their own classes while Mom and Dad pump iron. Bonus: Kids ages 2 to 11 can navigate obstacle courses, dance and learn introductory martial arts moves.

XSport Fitness
Ever wonder what your kids are doing while you’re pumping iron? Sneak a peek on closed-circuit TV monitors. Chances are you’ll see them lumbering around on the XSport Child’s Play center’s climbing gym. Who knows? That might inspire you to scale the gym’s rock wall.

The Women’s Club
For those days when you need a runner’s high, the Kids Club at the Women’s Club can handle all your youngsters’ needs…no reservations required. Activities are offered for 8- to 12-year-olds, and there’s a separate room for infants. Plus, the staff will change diapers for kids under 3. Sorry, dads. This gym is for ladies only.

Results Gym
Results Gym’s Results for Kids program has classes for little ones, including Mom & Tots Bootcamp for newborns through 18-month-olds, but if you’d rather have some alone time, the child care facility is takes kiddos as young as three months and up to 11 years. To avoid crowding, the service maintains a 7:1 child-to-attendant ratio.

24 Hour Fitness
Don’t rush through your reps. Children ages 6 months to 11 years can stay for up to two hours in the 24 Hour Fitness Kids’ Club, coloring, watching movies and doing movement activities with attendants trained in CPR and first aid. Each child must have a profile to check into the club, which can be accessed at any Kids’ Club location if you’re traveling.

LifeTime Fitness
The mother of all gym child care programs, the programming for children at LifeTime Fitness locations includes swim lessons and summer camp. At the Kids Academy, for ages three months to 11 years, kids can learn Spanish, try Zumba or breathe with yoga. There’s also the Child Center, which has areas for different activities, such as arts and crafts, dress-up, and computer time.

Big-box gyms aren’t the only ones that have child care.Barre3 studios offer classes that blend elements from ballet barre, yoga and Pilates–and they can watch the kids while you stretch, strengthen and center. Minors under 18 are welcome, and reservations are recommended. FYI: Three more D.C. locations are coming to 14th Street, Spring Valley and Union Station.
