“We don’t talk about Bruno” must be playing loudly

If you are a lover of the Disney movie Encanto, hold onto your magical house. A real-life Casa Madrigal may be coming to Disney parks soon, according to an announcement at the D23 Expo, Disney’s annual conference in Anaheim, California, this past weekend.

Disney Animation and Disney Imagineering are “in talks” to bring the beloved Encanto, as well as fan favorites like Coco and Zootopia (please let there be sloths) to life at Walt Disney World.

“Imagine if we could pass over those fires in Big Thunder Mountain, said Chris Beatty, creative portfolio executive for WDI. “Maybe there’s a little valley in front of us with the little town of Santa Cecilia [from Coco] and celebrating Encanto. And what if we could… fly into the Land of the Dead with our friend Miguel, just like the Riveras [from Coco]? That’s what could be out there.”

The idea, said Beatty, is to create a replica of Casa Madrigal where park-goers can explore the home and, just maybe, find a magical door of their own.

With original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the film drew millions of viewers, who fell in love with the voices of Stephanie Beatriz, María Cecilia Botero, John Leguizamo, Mauro Castillo, Jessica Darrow, Angie Cepeda, Carolina Gaitán, Diane Guerrero, and Wilmer Valderrama.

If you’ve not yet seen the film, Encanto follows the Madrigals,  a multigenerational Colombian family led by a matriarch (Botero). All her children and grandchildren—except for Mirabel Madrigal (Beatriz)—receive magical gifts they can use to serve the community, called the Encanto. When Mirabel sees the family is losing their magic, she sets out to save her family and the town.

This year marks Disney 100 Years of Wonder (Disney100), “the biggest celebration in the history of the company.” This means “new décor, specialty food and beverages, character experiences, and more” for park-goers, with the “heart of the celebration rooted at Disneyland Resort.”

While everything is still being conceptualized, Disney fans can look forward to seeing new attractions that will bring their big-screen favorites to life.
