Dylan Dreyer’s family vacation to Italy hit a few bumps—including her toddler son’s insistence on spending most of the trip on various floors

When vacationing with toddlers, you just have to roll with the punches. That’s something the Today show’s meteorologist, Dylan Dreyer, learned when she and her family took a dream trip to Italy. There were a few bumps in the road—like when the airline lost their luggage. But it was Dreyer’s 2-year-old son who really kept the family on their toes.

“I didn’t realize the most difficult part of our vacation would be keeping Rusty off the floor,” Dreyer wrote on Instagram, sharing photos from the trip, all of them featuring little Rusty on various floors. “I gave up after a while. He’s one very determined and stubborn little almost 2 year old.”

In one particularly hilarious snap, someone is trying to pick Rusty up. From a blur of motion and a twisted-up facial expression, you can tell it’s not going well. Parents of toddlers will instantly relate.

Despite Rusty’s shenanigans, Dreyer said the trip with her family, which included her husband, Brian Fichera, and their other sons Calvin, 6, and Oliver, 3, was “absolutely magical.”

“My in-laws, Brian’s parents, had been wanting to take the whole family to Sicily for a long time,” she said when she got back to the Today show, adding that traveling with the kids is less tough when you have extra hands in the form of extended family ready to babysit and dote on the kids. Is that the key to a peaceful vacation with a toddler? Someone ask Dreyer about the ideal adult-to-child ratio and get back to us.
