Battery Park Montessori is an American Montessori Society (AMS) Member School, and New York’s only trilingual Montessori school offering our 2-6 year old students an enhanced full-day Montessori program, with daily exposure to both Spanish and Mandarin languages in our Twos and our Casa (3-6) programs.

From our beautiful ground-level location in Battery Park City with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Hudson River, and a secure outdoor playground and a large, grassy play space nearby, children take regular outdoor walks along the tree-lined promenade to our Urban Farm garden plot.

Our children thrive in pristine prepared classroom environments, guided by fully-qualified, caring and native-speaking English, Spanish and Mandarin teachers that ensure the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, linguistic and academic development of each child, while nurturing their independence, natural curiosity, and executive funtioning and problem-solving skills. In addition, Battery Park Montessori is the premiere school in NYC teaching with Learning Beautiful’s hands-on, tactile, and age-appropriate STEM computer coding materials.

Our graduating families are supported throughout their exmissions process and our graduates attend the finest NYC ongoing schools, including Dalton, Spence, Trinity, Horace Mann, Hunter, Collegiate, and many G&T programs and public schools.

With a solid educational foundation based in well-researched pedagogy, our children our prepared for the world and for life.

Now, more than ever, the world needs global citizens who approach challenging issues with empathy and compassion. For over thirty years, the International School of Portland (ISP) has offered full language and cultural immersion in a warm, loving environment that encourages curiosity and kindness.

ISP is one of only two schools in the USA to provide three full language immersion programs—Mandarin, Japanese and Spanish—under one roof. It was the first school in the Pacific Northwest to adopt the renowned International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.

ISP nurtures children’s natural love of learning by engaging them in a holistic, challenging curriculum. It inspires them to ask questions, pursue the concepts that interest them, and share their knowledge as they collaborate with others to accomplish common goals. Their teachers are master facilitators, guiding students through their educational journeys while also ensuring that the school’s academic standards are met.

Because of their multilingual and cultural environment, ISP’s campus is a global microcosm, helping to shape children who are open-minded, confident, empathetic, and inclusive —traits that encourage them take responsible action within and beyond our school community.

Ages 6-12 will learn how to sew while making real clothing and accessories in our fun and fab after school and weekend sewing courses for kids!

Our Fashion Design and Sewing classes for children and tweens 6-12 years old combines all the elements of fashion such as measuring, cutting fabric, using patterns and sewing machines into one fabulous course!

Class begins with an introduction on how to use a sewing machine (our machines are equipped with speed control and finger guards for a safe and fun environment) and students begin their first project during class number one. Throughout the course they learn how to thread the sewing machine, properly cut fabric and use child-friendly patterns to make 3 or more fashionable items during their class.

Each child works with our professional instructors, on their own project at their own pace. Our student/teacher ratio is 6:1 and our studio has ten sewing machines for a class of ten students.

Projects progress in difficulty to build your child’s sewing skills and projects change each season so that students can continue to sew with us!

Arts Aloft is an arts studio for children ages 5–12 in Seattle’s Madrona neighborhood. Our classes help students experience the pleasure of artistic self-expression while learning the techniques of the grand masters in multiple media, including tempera, acrylic, water color, charcoal, ink, plaster, and clay.

At Arts Aloft we believe what a vast body of scientific research has shown: that the process of creating art at a young age delivers an immense developmental payoff by increasing one’s ability to think critically, solve problems imaginatively, and experience an enhanced sense of well-being.  Kids love coming to the studio because they can make a big mess and  learn that there are no mistakes in art!  We place a great deal of importance on teaching creative problem solving with the hope that artists will transfer that skill to other parts of their lives.

There are mixed media and drawing classes for all ages and a Tuesday class for Girls Only ages 8-13.  Don’t see a class for you on the website? Call us and we would be happy to create a class just for you! Join our mailing list and we’ll let you know about upcoming Workshops and Camps.

Children’s Hospital Los Angeles knows back to school may look different this year.  Even though parents may not know exactly when kids are physically returning to school, we do know that our children’s health is essential.

At a well-visit, your pediatrician may check your child’s growth and development milestones, administer vaccines and talk to you about your child’s nutrition, behavior issues, sleeping patterns and general health and well-being. Consistent well-child visits help your child’s pediatrician identify your family’s needs and get your child the help they need early on.

“Especially in these times, when many people are under financial stress, and children are away from their normal routines of school and friends, these visits are a good way to check in on how our families are doing and see if we can refer them to any needed resources,” says Dr. Mona Patel, MD. Many offices are also offering virtual visits, allowing you to discuss your child’s health with their physician from the comfort of your home. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is prepared to keep families and children healthy and safe, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Find a doctor and for more information, visit CHLA.org.

Welcome to Outdoor After “School”!

While this summer hasn’t been an easy one, you already know what an incredible impact the Tumbleweed experience has made on your child. With that in mind, and with schools closed for in-person learning for the foreseeable future, we’re excited to extend the camp love with TumbleweedXL, our after-”school” camp starting in September.

We’re excited to be able to offer this opportunity to you this fall. As a parent, I know that the choices for our kids this fall are pretty slim, and I hope that TumbleweedXL can make for a more engaging, deeper learning experience for your child (and an easier fall for you!). We’re in this together: we get it – this year has been too hard. It takes a village to raise a child. Let’s be that village together and raise each other up.
