Heather Dubrow marked International Sons Day with an Instagram post announcing that her youngest child, Ace, is transgender

A lot has been happening for the Dubrow family off-screen. Heather Dubrow, her surgeon husband, and their four kids have long captured viewers’ hearts as some of the classiest people ever to grace the Real Housewives franchise. Now, they’re sharing a behind-the-scenes update on their family that shows that the class—and the love they share—are definitely not just for the screen.

Marking International Sons Day, Dubrow posted a photo to Instagram introducing her youngest child as “Ace” and sharing that he is transgender.

“It’s International sons day! We love you, our youngest son, Ace ❤️,” she wrote, alongside a photo of a stunning California sunset over a beach with “Ace” written in the sand.

Dubrow continued, “Our job as parents is to give our kids a safe and supportive environment so they can grow up as healthy, happy, confident, independent humans. Since Ace is a 12 year old child, with a long life ahead of him – we will let him tell his own story someday if he chooses to do so.”

She finished the post with a sweet message to Ace from herself, Terry, and their three other kids: “ll we can say is Ace, we love you so much and we are proud to be your parents. Your brother and sisters love and support you too ❤️”

Can we all take a moment to appreciate this mama doing it right? With all the anti-trans discourse happening in the world right now (most notably, Tennessee’s downright scary ban on drag that essentially makes it illegal for trans people to exist as their true selves in public), this is the kind of love and support we need to see more of. This is how parents can protect their kids: by loving them unconditionally, whoever they are.

Fans of the Dubrows will remember that Heather and Co. have always been open to different identities and sexualities within their family. On the show, their daughter Max came out as bisexual. Soon after, their oldest daughter, Kat, came out as a lesbian.

“We’ve got four kids, they are different genders, different sexualities, and all at interesting places in their lives, figuring out who they are and where they belong as human,” Dubrow told People last year.
