Cena is setting records in and out of the ring

John Cena has been front and center in the wrestling ring for years, but it’s his work out of the ring that is most impressive.

The Guinness Book of World Records recognized the actor and WWE superstar for the most wishes granted through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, coming in at a whopping 650. As noted in the press release, the wrestler and actor started his career in 1999 and quickly became known as one of the most successful wrestlers ever, winning the WWE Championship a record 13 times. Cena has been with the foundation since 2002, when he granted his first wish.

The non-profit organization fulfills the wishes of gravely sick or dying children up to age 18. According to their website, “A wish is granted every 34 minutes. A wish can be that spark that helps these children believe that anything is possible and gives them the strength to fight harder against their illnesses.”

For Cena, it’s his most important work. “I will drop what I’m doing and be involved because I think that’s the coolest thing,” Cena told Reuters in 2015. “If I can offer a fantastic experience, I’ll be first in line to do my part.”

In June, the foundation congratulated Cena on his 20-year career in the WWE, where he’s also been a face of the “Be a Star” anti-bullying campaign. “Join us in congratulating long-time wish granter @JohnCena on the 20th Anniversary of his @WWE debut!” the foundation wrote.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation allows kids who are battling life-threatening illnesses to meet a celebrity, go on an adventure, or even give a gift to another child in need.

The Guinness Book of World Records verified Cena’s 650th wish on July 19.

Taking time out of a busy schedule is something not all celebrities (or ordinary people, for the matter) would consider. The fact that Cena’s done it 650 times is mind-blowing and a testament to the kind of person he is.

Make-A-Wish added in a statement that John Cena is the most requested celebrity in the organization’s history. They also noted that no one has ever granted more than 200 wishes in the foundation’s history, a record he surpassed years ago.
