New mom Keke Palmer has an encouraging message for moms: “I’ve already learned in these short few days that it takes a village and sometimes that’s a privilege”

Just a few weeks after becoming a mom for the first time, Keke Palmer is opening up about the experience so far—and she has a moving message for all the moms who are doing the hardest job in the world without the support they deserve.

In a video posted to Instagram, Palmer said, “If you are a single parent, pull out your cape. As a matter of fact, clip off your angel wings because I don’t know how else you did it.”

Noting that she doesn’t want the video to seem insensitive, because there are so many different reasons someone may become a single parent, Palmer noted the privilege that comes with having a circle of support when raising kids.

“Maybe they lost somebody. Maybe they don’t want to deal with somebody. Maybe it’s a choice,” she said. “But when it comes to raising a kid, I’ve already learned in these short few days that it takes a village and sometimes that’s a privilege.”

In the video’s caption, Palmer wrote a nod to the ups and downs she’s already experienced since welcoming her son less than a month ago.

“I ain’t gon’ lie, I’m gettin’ COOKED!”

Palmer shares her newborn son with her boyfriend, Darius Jackson. On Feb. 27, they announced his birth with a sweet Instagram post that included pictures of them cuddling their baby in the hospital—and a photo of Palmer and Jackson, 48 hours into parenthood, looking frazzled and exhausted like new parents should.

“Born during Black History Month, with a name to match,” she wrote at the time. “LEODIS ANDRELLTON JACKSON, welcome to the world baby Leo.”
