Maybe I Do is bringing together two generations of rom-com royalty, and we cannot wait

Is there anything better than the classic rom-com? Two people overcome the most ridiculous and improbable of circumstances to fall in love—giving hope to single guys and gals everywhere that all it will take is a best friend with an infinite well of one-liners and a seemingly terrible situation surrounded by zany hijinks to find The One. And then there are the casts. Rom-coms have historically starred some of the most charming actors and actresses in all of Hollywood, which is what has us counting the days until we can see Maybe I Do.

This new rom-com is bringing together absolutely all of the genre’s royalty. It stars Diane Keaton and Richard Gere as spouses who are each having an affair with a member of another couple, played by Susan Sarandon and William H. Macy. Oh, and the two couples each have a child—played by Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey, just to sweeten the credits even more—and their kids are dating and on the fence about getting married themselves.

Does it sound absolutely confusing? Yes. But does it also sound like the perfectly unrealistic set-up for a rom-com for the ages? Yes again. Just watch this trailer and see for yourself.

“Thinking it is a good idea to invite their parents to finally meet, a dinner is set and the games begin,” the film’s official description reads. “To everyone’s surprise, the parents already know each other well—all too well—leading to distinct, defining, and hilarious opinions about the value of marriage.”

Need we say more? Maybe I Do sounds like it’s going to be an instant classic, with all the elements of a perfect rom-com. We’ll all find out for sure when it hits theaters just in time for Valentine’s Day, on Jan. 27.
