Barack Obama’s throwback picture is *swoon*

Former First Lady Michelle Obama shared a sweet throwback picture for her husband, Barack, in honor of his 61st birthday. The 44th president of the United States turned 61 years old yesterday.

Michelle shared the adorable picture on social media along with a sweet caption, “Happy birthday to my honey! Life with you just keeps getting better every year. You always make me proud. I love you.”

Her birthday wishes come just a month after the Obamas’ eldest daughter, Malia Obama, turned 24. “Happy birthday, Malia!” Barack wrote to his daughter alongside a photo of him holding her as a baby. “No matter how sophisticated, accomplished, beautiful, and gracious a young woman you’ve become—you’ll always be my baby. And I will always be here to lift you up.”

The Obamas’ youngest daughter, Sasha Obama, turned 21 this past June. “My baby has grown into a beautiful, independent, compassionate, highly capable young woman,” Michelle wrote next to a sweet picture of Sasha as a baby. “You will always be my littlest pea,” Michelle wrote, adding that she was “so proud of the human you are becoming.”

The former POTUS marked his 61st birthday by paying tribute to his mother, Ann Dunham, who passed away in 1995. The Obama Foundation announced that the Obama Presidential Center, which will be located in Chicago, will feature a Water Garden named in Dunham’s memory.

“My mother, Ann Dunham, was the biggest influence on my life. She had a core belief in our common humanity, and she made sure I recognized the inherent dignity in every person,” he wrote on Instagram. “Today I’m proud to share that the Water Garden at the Obama Presidential Center will be named in her honor. The Ann Dunham Water Garden will be a special place for visitors and members of the community to come together and reflect. It will also feature an incredible new sculpture by Maya Lin, whose work I’ve long admired.”

The Obamas have been married since 1992 and have always been open about sharing their feelings towards each other with the world. “It’s important to marry somebody who is your equal,” she said during the 2019 Essence Fest, “and to marry somebody and to be with somebody who wants you to win as much as you want them to win.”
