Just in time for Spring Break, Trip Advisor has released their picks for the top 25 best beaches in the United States, so you can pretty much solidify your vacay plans now. Both Florida and Hawaii steal the spotlight, taking up the top 5 spots between the two of them, and we can definitely see why. Crystal clear warm waters, white sand beaches and that delicious ocean breeze make a family beach vacation a great choice for your upcoming break.

Here are the top five choices from Trip Advisor. Grab your towel and sunscreen and hit the beach!

Clearwater, Florida

Shallow waters and white sand mean Clearwater Beach in Florida is a great destination for young families. The beach is just one of 88 things to do listed by Trip Advisor for this destination. If sand between your toes isn't your thing, take the kids to the Clearwater Aquarium, on a ferry ride or head to a winery. Plenty of fun for everyone!

Siesta Beach, Florida

Piaxabay

South of Sarasota, Siesta Beach, Florida is a great option if you have lots of little swimmers. Known for its hard-packed sand and gorgeous sunsets, Siesta Beach is nestled within the Siesta Keys. Volleyball courts, plenty of food options and chair rentals make this beach the perfect place to pick a spot and stay all day.

Ka'anapali Beach, Maui, Hawaii

It would be flat-out wrong to visit Maui and not check out Lahaina's Ka'anapali Beach. Gentle winds and tons of sea life (think turtles and whales) make this a beach on the more relaxing side. Seasoned beachgoers report no seaweed and no sand flies, and plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance.

South Beach, Florida

Enjoy a relaxing beach vacation and probably spot a celebrity or two if you visit South Beach this Spring Break. Known for its fine sand and wide beaches, South Beach is home to many a fashion photo shoot and is great for families with pre-teens or teenagers. With tons of shops, restaurants and hotels in this hot-spot, you should have no problem finding a place to stay and eat, all within your budget.

Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, Oahu, Hawaii

Prayitno via flickr

Novice and beginner snorkelers will love the beach at Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve. Be prepared to pay for entering and allow time to watch a video on respecting the preserve and wildlife, but it's well worth it. Even if you don't plan on a snorkel trip, this beach is beautiful and a perfect spot to take in all the natural beauty that Hawaii has to offer.

You can find the remaining top 20 ranked beaches over at Trip Advisor.

13 LEGOLAND Secrets You Must Know Before You Go

The LEGOLAND Castle Hotel Is on Its Way to Opening

If you haven’t planned for a family beach vacation before, or it has been a while, you might have some questions as to how to get started. Here are the top five questions that parents have when taking their family on a beach vacation.

When should I start planning?

It is important to start planning for your beach vacation as far in advance as possible. The longer you have to plan for the budget, the activities, and everything else that goes into a beach vacation, the smoother the trip will go. It also gives you time to plan for anything that might come up unexpectedly.

It is always a good idea to have a Plan B, especially when planning a vacation with the kids. Plus, with less stress right before you leave, you won’t be as flustered when you actually get there so you can enjoy your time at the beach.

How do I find the right beach?

When planning a vacation with the whole family, it is best to try to find a destination that is closer to home. This way, if something comes up, it isn’t as much of a hassle to turn around and come back home.

Start by looking up beaches that are not too far from home. You can look up what amenities they have as well as what accommodations are nearby. Plus, with a short drive, the kids won’t get antsy in the car which is less stress on you.

What are some of the beach essentials?

It is important to have sun screen, especially with the kids. Make sure the sun screen has a high SPF rating, is made for sensitive skin, and is water resistant so you don’t have to apply it as often. Having beach towels, some kind of shade, as well as bags that don’t accumulate sand is very important. Bringing snacks and beverages is also a good idea when having kids at the beach.

Do we need to plan for safety?

Before you leave for your vacation, go over the safety rules with everyone. Everyone should know how to get themselves out of an undertow, not to go too far out, to listen and look for lifeguards, etc.

Parents should make sure they always have one on watch and that all kids are visible at all times. Kids should be escorted to bathrooms or snack bars.

What kind of beach activities are there?

There are a ton of activities to participate in at the beach and not just the basic ones that come to mind like beach volleyball, surfing and building sand castles, although you are free to do those as well if you’d like.

If you are looking for a list of activities to plan for when you get to the beach with the family, check out this list of family beach activities and make sure you pack what you need to keep everyone busy.

A family beach vacation is the perfect way to make lasting memories with the kids. Make sure you plan everything from the sun screen to the entertainment, have the perfect accommodations and take a lot of pictures. Who knows, the family beach vacation might just become a summertime tradition.

Im an active Dad who like to take his son into the great outsoors to learn and connect with nature.

As if having two famous parents wasn’t enough, imagine getting to jet-set across the globe and visit some of the most iconic sights that anyone would want to see. Angelina Jolie took her kids to the Louvre, and we’re kind of jealous. Yeah, you’ve taken your kiddos to the museum before. But the Louvre? It’s not exactly a staycation day or a trip across town. Right? Well, we’ve got the scoop on the Jolie brood’s day at the Louvre.

What do you do on a typical Tuesday? Maybe you hit Starbucks for a seasonal Frappuccino, take the kids to Target and head to the playground for a pre-k playgroup meet-up. Not Jolie. The super-stylish mama to six took Maddox (16), Pax (14), Zahara (13), Shiloh (11) and Knox and Vivienne (both 9) to the Louvre on a recent Tuesday.

The A-list actress was reportedly in Paris to film a perfume commercial for the iconic Guerlain cosmetics company. Like any working mama, Jolie carved some time out of her work trip to spend with her kids. So we guess that means she’s just like us? Um, probably not.

Under-the-Radar Vacations You Never Considered

10 Unplugged Family Vacations to Take This Year

The Best Museums for Kids in Every State

One of the best ways to bond with your family and create memories is to travel. You get to see new places, meet new cultures, learn about different people and spend quality time with your loved ones.

As much as we love to travel when you’re taking your family with you, it can be quite hectic. To avoid stress and spend your time at some destination with your family carefree and feeling happy,  here are nine useful tips that will help you have an unforgettable time on family trips.

1. Choose a destination everyone will love.

To make beautiful memories, everyone should be happy with travel destination, a place where you will spend your vacation should be something that entire family agrees on. The best way to do it is to sit down and talk to your family.

Each member should recommend a place, and then you can choose travel destination by voting. The best thing to do is to write different places on small pieces of paper, put papers into a hat or a bowl and someone should take one paper out of the bowl.

Remember, family vacation means that entire family should be involved in decision-making process.

2. Plan thoroughly.

Let’s face it; when you travel alone, you get to be spontaneous and “go with the flow.” However, when you move with your family, you have to make sure you plan everything thoroughly.

Besides making necessary travel arrangements, it is important to bear in mind that planning everything in last minute doesn’t guarantee an excellent time for your family. Why? It’s because when you procrastinate and leave travel planning until last minute, you get stressed out when you see how much work you have to do.

Of course, there are also those timeswhen you forget something important and the entire family remembers all those arguments and bickering during travel. Therefore, start planning your vacation weeks or even months before you set off.

3. Search for cheap flights.
Instead of opening the first website you see and book flight tickets, you should spend a decent amount of time researching and finding affordable tickets. Some sites like Skyscanner offer cheap tickets as well as travel information where you can learn more about that place, when is the right time to go there and other useful things that will make your trip more comfortable.

To book tickets and save money, you should check prices on different websites and compare. Plus, booking tickets several weeks or months ahead is cheaper than booking them only a few days ahead.

4. Look for a comfortable place to stay.

Here’s another reason traveling alone is different from traveling with family; when you’re going solo, you can sleep just about anywhere, in motels, hostels, etc. But, when your family is with you, the best way to have fun and make great memories is to look for a comfortable hotel or any place that will be your home away from home.

If you’re not a fan of hotels and consider them impractical for traveling with family, you can always opt for renting an apartment: it’s a cheaper and more practical option.

5. Eat like the locals!

Let’s say you and your family are traveling abroad. While the first thing you think of is to stay healthy while traveling and so, look for McDonalds or Subway and eat there, the best thing to do is to eat in restaurants where local food is served. This way, both you and your family will get to learn more about different cultures and food is an important part of that culture.

It’s important to enrich your body and mind by sinking in cultural influences from different parts of the world. Therefore, while you’re in another country, you should do the same. At the same time, you’re setting a great example for your kids who will appreciate all wonderful memories of your trip.

6. Walk, walk, walk—wherever you go.

Walking lets, you explore, blend in with locals, and see more things than sitting on a bus or in a taxi. It is needless to say that walking is healthy and is a recommended physical activity. Besides being the most practical and healthiest option, walking is also cost-effective.

To avoid wandering (or getting lost!), you should come up with a detailed plan for all things you will see. For this, you will need to do a lot of research. Write down different places and locations to come up with a plan; what to see first, what to look after or where to eat..

7. Bring toys and games.

If you have small kids, the best thing to keep them occupied is to bring different toys and games, particularly when you’re on plane or train. For example, you can purchase little backpacks for each child and let them pick their toys and games. There has to be a rule; they have to use and carry in their little backpack toy or game they pick.

8. Interact with locals.

Even when you are with your family interacting with locals is always recommended. You can ask them for recommendations about different restaurants, and if you’re traveling to some non-English speaking country, you can use this opportunity to practice your language skills.

9. Pack light.

Traveling with family means you will go from place to place, and packing carefully can help you avoid stress. Ideally, you should pack essentials only. Why? The more you pack, the more you will have to worry about during your trip.

The vision of ideal vacation doesn’t include stressing out with packing and hurrying to pack everything as soon as possible.

Traveling with family doesn’t always have to be stressful, hectic and frustrating. With these tips, you can make memories with your kids and enjoy precious moments spent together.

I am a health enthusiast and a passionate writer. My primary expertise is in beauty and skin care but I have also published articles on health, wellness and fitness. My sincerity and thoughtfulness resonate with readers and my enthusiasm is contagious.

Staying in a hotel can be great, especially for short stays. But for longer trips, I look for an apartment or house to rent. Having a kitchen saves us money by not eating out constantly, and if you are traveling with kids, it means you don’t have to tiptoe around a hotel room after they go to bed. Even better, many properties have washer/dryers which means half as much packing to do.

VRBO (Vacation Rental By Owner) is my go-to website for vacation rental properties, and I have always had success finding my family’s vacation lodging here. All of my transactions have gone smoothly, and the properties have typically exceeded my expectations. Finding the right property takes quite a bit of time, but it’s worth the effort. Here are some tips when searching VRBO for that perfect vacation rental.

1. Know your general itinerary first.

Before you can answer where you want to stay, you need to know what you want to do on your vacation. If most of your activities revolve around shopping and eating downtown, look at downtown properties that are within walking distance. Conversely, if you plan to hike or visit multiple attractions, choose an area that minimizes your drive time. As they say in real estate, “location, location, location” applies here, too.

2. Enter the actual dates you plan to stay.

When searching for a property, enter the actual dates of your visit. If you don’t enter dates for your location search, your results will usually list the “average price per night” and its availability will be unknown. Without dates, you’ll see the average of the rates charged during the low season and the high season. This price can be misleading if you are planning to visit during the high season when you can most certainly count on a higher price than the listed “average.”

3. Use the “Search When I Move Map” option.

Once you’ve determined what you want to do, you’re now ready to find where you want to stay. The “Search When I Move Map” option allows you to precisely pinpoint the properties that are available in the area you’d like to stay. Tip: Zoom in to see exact street names. You can then enter a general address on Google Maps to see what surrounds the property and map the distance to other attractions.

4. Look closely at the photos.

You’d be surprised how much you can learn about a property by looking at its photos. Does the furniture look worn? What is the view out the window? Is the bathroom remodeled? Is the property decorated nicely or is it cluttered? You’ll get a good general sense of the property layout, cleanliness and st‌yle just by looking at the photos. Also, experienced owners will have multiple photos of the bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas, whereas owners new to VRBO don’t always include this detail. Go with the experienced owner. Additionally, if the photos are blurry or poor quality, keep looking.

5. Read the reviews.

You can learn a lot from the people who have stayed at the property before you. First, the star rating is important. Look for properties with at least 4/5 stars with dozens of reviews. You want lots of reviews because that means the owners have been doing this awhile and have the kinks worked out.

In addition, the reviews can often be a goldmine of information. You can learn about a great restaurant in the neighborhood or an activity that’s close by and shouldn’t be missed. You can also find out whether the sleeper sofa is actually comfortable, the level of street noise, and other property quirks.

Seriously, the reviews are usually the best source of information on the property. Read several of them. I also like to single out the worst reviews and make a point to read them as well. Keep in mind that sometimes there is just no pleasing people and terrible reviews will be written regarding events completely out of the control of the owners. However, if something did go disastrously wrong, I like to read how the owners handled it.

6. Realize many properties are not listed by the actual owner.

In fact, you’ll often be dealing with a property manager rather than the owner. Although VRBO stands for “Vacation Rental By Owner,” it’s increasingly common for property management firms to list their properties on VRBO. The downside is that those properties are often more expensive than private owner listings. The upside is that you have a rental property management firm available if anything goes wrong, such as a broken air conditioner or leaking sink.

7. Count on additional fees.

Although the price per night might look like a steal, keep in mind that you still need to pay cleaning fees, taxes, and a service fee. These additional fees can easily add up to the equivalent of an additional night’s rent.  Tip: VRBO charges a service fee for booking through their site. I have often paid a check to the owner to avoid it, especially with properties I am returning to for a second time.

8. Check to see if the property is listed on other vacation rental sites.

Once you’ve found the property you like, check to see if it’s listed on airbnb or booking.com. I’ve sometimes found the same property to be less expensive on other sites. If your property is listed by a property management company, check their website too.

9. Want to travel with your pet?

You can search properties with a filter “pets allowed” to see which allow pets. Expect to pay an additional fee. I’ve found that for the most part, these properties can be just as nice as those that don’t allow pets. Look for hardwood floors and read reviews regarding cleanliness to increase your chance of a suitable property. Tip: I’ve sometimes had success asking a “no pets allowed” property if they would consider allowing a pet. It doesn’t hurt to ask, especially if you have a well-behaved dog with an excellent track record at home. Be willing to put down a sizable deposit.

10. Look at the cancellation policy.

Cancellation policies varies by property. Be aware of the cancellation timeline and any fees you would incur if you need to cancel it. A strict cancellation policy versus a more flexible one is sometimes the deciding factor for me when choosing between two properties.

Following these tips can save you lots of frustation using VRBO and improve your chances of finding that perfect house for your family vacation.

So you want to pull your kids out of school for a week-long trip to Disney World. The winter is a great time to visit Disney World, after all, and if they can get their homework done in advance, everything will be easy-peasy… right? Not necessarily. When it comes to pulling your kids out of school to travel, there are a few factors every parent should consider:

Does your child’s school allow it?

First, find out what the school’s policy is on taking kids out of school to travel. Many schools handle the situation on a case-by-case basis — but that doesn’t mean school-year vacations are encouraged, either.

How is your child doing in school?

If your son or daughter is struggling in school — even in one class — taking him or her out of school is probably not an ideal choice. If your child is excelling and has the time and energy to take on extra assignments in anticipation of his or her absence, taking a school-year vacation may be attainable.

What grade is your child in?

You’ll likely have an easier time pulling elementary-aged students out of school than you will high schoolers. Multiple classes and teachers in middle school and high school will definitely make the situation trickier, assuming your child will have to consult with each teacher ahead of the trip. And chances are, each teacher’s expectations will be different.

How does your child feel about it?

A vacation in Disney World (or some other amazing place) certainly sounds exciting. But your child may have a different perspective on the family vacation. Perhaps he or she is concerned about an upcoming project or a big game they want to play in. Pulling them from those important events could start the vacation on a bad note — or completely ruin the trip.

Where did you get married? Was it in a magical, fantasy spot? Maybe it was on a sandy beach. Or maybe it was in some sort of other tropical paradise. While those are dream wedding picks for plenty of brides-to-be, one couple chose a less vacation-y venue. Where? They picked Costco!

https://www.instagram.com/p/BZX2Yq9FHCB/?taken-by=rps88a

When Sue Berkley and Eli Bob, from Sydney, Australia, got married they decided that their favorite retailer was the perfect wedding pick.

This wasn’t just a quickie wedding in the aisles, in between the bulk diapers and jogs of mustard. The couple’s wedding included a full set-up. There were tables (with linens and flowers, of course), chairs and plenty of “scenic” décor. Oh, and the whole thing came at a low, low cost of just under $10 a person. You can’t beat that! Instead of the typical wedding fare, guests were treated to Costco pizza, hot dogs and meat pies. Along with that, guests could get unlimited soft drinks from the store’s soda fountain for only $1.49.

So, why pick Costco? The bride told Australia’s A Current Affair, “Where else can I get married to the one I love, in the place that I love, surrounded by the people I love?”

Would you get married at a retail location? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

If you’re looking to extend the Oktoberfest festivities with your kinders beyond its traditional boundaries, Fredericksburg is the place to do it. Because they celebrate their German heritage, as well as big Texas traditions, all winter long in this tiny town. Nestled in the heart of Texas Hill Country, expect to find the all the things you love about German culture (beer and brawts count), alongside choral concerts and honky tonk bands.
