A mom took to the internet to shame the parent who grabbed a slice of birthday cake right out of her kid’s hands

Everyone knows how park politics work for kids. Who among us never went to the park as a young’n and made a lifelong bestie after sharing the tire swing for 20 minutes? It’s just what kids do. But one mom is getting (rightfully) dragged after she got stingy with her kid’s birthday cake, refusing to give any to a friend they made during their park birthday party.

Kat Stickler took to TikTok to share the story with her followers, asking for a gut check about whether she was being an entitled mom in the situation.

“I’m gonna mom shame. The only people I’ve ever mom-shamed are myself and my own mother. But one other mom is going to be added to the list because, what the—,” she says. “Am I entitled, or is this messed up?”

Stickler then goes on to describe how she took her daughter, MK, to their local park, where the only other people there were a birthday party. No problem—Stickler’s daughter quickly made friends with the party kids and they all played together. “It was nice; it was actually very cute,” the mom says. When it came time to sing ‘Happy Birthday,’ Stickler’s daughter joined in, because, “She’s one of the group right now” and “they welcomed her with open arms.”

Well, the kids did, anyway.

Once the singing ended, it was time for cake.

“I see MK. I see her intention of grabbing a piece of cake. So, I walk over to make sure it’s okay, as a formality,” Stickler says. “Honestly, I was like, ‘Obviously, it’s OK. It’s a cake. It’s a massive cake. There’s lots of leftover pieces.'”

Nope.

She continues, “The mother takes the plate away from MK, gets down to her level, and says, ‘You cannot eat this cake. This is not your birthday party. These are not your friends. Where’s your mother?'”

I’m sorry, what? “These are not your friends?” Lady.

Stickler’s shaming worked, because everyone in the comments came for that mom, and rightfully so.

“I can’t believe a parent would treat a child like that regardless. I’d be super happy to share cake with a new friend my kid has made,” one commenter wrote.

Another added, “The only appropriate response is, ‘Run and ask your mom if you’re allowed to have cake.’ Reengages the parent and gives you a second to count the slices.”

This comment really nails it: “The part that gets me is the ‘these are not your friends.’ They’ve been playing for half an hour. To kids, that’s friendship.”

Anyway, we hope every slice of leftover cake that mom had tasted as bitter as she was. Oh, and we’ll happily share all our birthday cake with MK.
