This Mom’s Viral Sunburn Hack Just Might Save Your Summer

When Texas mom, Cindie Allen-Stewart shared photos of her sunburn relief hack to family and friends two weeks ago, she never dreamed it would eventually be shared over 230,000 times. The Mount Calm native found herself suffering from too much time in the sun and turned to a family remedy to ease her stinging skin: shaving cream.

As it turns out, menthol-based foaming shaving cream provides more than just an easy shave––it can bring down your sunburn a notch or two. The process can take a few days to completely resolve a sunburn, but the immediate results take that painful stinging out, stat.

The sunburn hack is actually quite easy, according to Allen-Stewart. Apply a layer of foam (no gel!) shaving cream with menthol to the affected area and allow to sit for 30 minutes. Then simply rinse off and repeat the next day, if necessary.

The Texas mom posted photos to show the amazing results from day one versus day three, and we have to agree there does seem to be something magical about her hack. Even better, Allen-Stewart reports no peeling!

The hack found it’s way to her family about 40 years ago when her mother-in-law heard it from a doctor. Since Allen-Stewart’s husband is allergic to aloe, the shaving cream hack was a perfect alternative to treating sunburns for their family.

Of course, we all know the best treatment for sunburns is avoiding them all together by applying ample sunscreen and watching your time in the sun. However, if you find yourself caught outside a little too long and end up with a sunburn, this hack is definitely worth a shot.
