The Family Guide to BoCoCa: Paris on the BQE

A trip to the City of Lights not in the cards? Head to this Brooklyn 'hood to sample all things French!

“BoCoCa” — AKA, the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens — has long attracted a French-speaking and French-loving population, likely influenced by (among other things) the dual language program at area school P.S. 58. In the past year, a host of new French services and businesses have joined the BoCoCa pioneers, making this Brooklyn spot feel like a far-flung arrondissement of Paris. For A French-lover’s Fest: Tilt Kids Festival

Ok this, for the most part, is not happening in BoCoCa — although art space The Invisible Dog and nearby Brooklyn Academy of Music will be hosting some events. However, if your family appreciates French culture, you're going to want to go to this. Sponsored by The Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), the inaugural Tilt Kids Festival is a new cultural festival for families featuring multidisciplinary international work paired with commissions from New York artists, including five premieres.

Expect circus, magic, music, dance, design and even gastronomy (from restauranteur Wylie Dufresne!) with a French flair — all created just for kids. Performances and events are happening for an entire month citywide, at venues such as FIAF, BAM, NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts and the Museum of Food and Drink. The festival promises the most inventive and forward-thinking creators from France and around the globe redefining art for young audiences. Whoa!
