The Art: Take your little prince or princess to see the early beginnings of one of the most beloved little princes in children’s literature. “The Little Prince: A New York Story” at the Morgan Library celebrates and documents the origins of the French classic by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
Fun for Kids: Contrary to the book’s Fox who says that “anything essential is invisible to the eyes,” the exhibit showcases 25 manuscript pages and 43 early illustrations, all imbued with evidence of the author – coffee stains, cigarette burns and scribbled-out words. The watercolors are hung low on the walls so little ones can easily see de Saint-Exupéry’s continual reworking of the images we now know so well.
Insider Tip: The Morgan Library is pulling out all the stops to pay honor to the Little Prince at its annual Spring Family Fair. Kids can watch an animated short film of The Little Prince, compose a large mural made of planets, and try on fun costumes. The Ben Jam troupe will perform and bring to life the Little Prince and his magical journey. Stop by the Morgan Café for some sweets and Little Prince coloring sheets for the kiddos as well.
